It was easy to make the reservation online. When the driver showed up with the delivery, he called first to let me know he was on the way. Then he called when he got there. He was very kind and gave me instructions, tips and pointers on how to use the scissor lift. He even brought it indoors for me when he saw that I was struggling!

They dropped off the equipment earlier than promised which was helpful with my schedule. It was in great condition and the staff online and in the local office have been very helpful. I look forward to renting more equipment for my future projects. Thanks!

Shady practice. Beware renting equipment from them. They were unable to pick up the equipment they rented to us because they dont have available drivers to pick them up. The equipment was left at our jobsite for days. They ended up charging us for the days they couldnt pick up the equipment. Will be reporting this matter to BBB.

I have been coming here for years. When I bought my Hayward home in 1997 we were faced with buying a lawn mower, weed whacker and other things. Thinking of storing and maintaining this equipment made us decide to rent when we needed something. Lewis Rents was the place. Great customer service, full line of equipment for every need and everything in working condition. The 1 time I had equipment failure it was taken care of to everyone's satisfaction. Today my husband came home and said that it had changes names...I only wanted to know if the employees were the same because they are the best.

Questions & Answers

What's the right earthmoving equipment for my job?

Excavators are heavy-duty diggers. Typically, the deeper the hole, the bigger the machine required. They can drill, break rocks, create trenches or dig large holes for foundations. A compact excavator is ideal for heavy digging in a tight space. Loaders are perfect for scooping up loose material and depositing it elsewhere. They move well in soft soil but cannot dig very deeply. Bulldozers' giant blade attachments can push large quantities of dirt, debris, shrubs or building remains to where you want them. A bulldozer can also be outfitted with a rear "ripper" that can tear through rock and soil.

How do I calculate excavator bucket capacity and volume?

Ensuring you have the right size bucket for your project is important for proper production and reducing wear and tear on the equipment. There are several factors to consider and calculations to perform to determine the correct bucket. Generally, you'll use OEM specifications, including the maximum lift capacity, bucket weight and bucket capacity. Find more information and how to calculate whether the capacity of your bucket will work in the United Rentals article, “How to Choose the Right Bucket for Your Excavator or Wheel Loader.”

What size skid steer do I need?

The size of skid steer depends on the job you wish to perform. The smallest skid steers typically have a rated operating capacity (ROC) of about 700 pounds and an overall weight of about 3,000 pounds. This smaller size is ideal for a homeowner project as it can usually fit through a walkthrough backyard gate. A very large skid steer can have an ROC in the 3,000-plus-pound range for someone who doesn’t have room for a full-size backhoe or wheel loader. Read more about the seven factors to consider when renting a skid steer from United Rentals.
