I've used Safe Responsible Movers twice now, and both times the guys have been absolutely wonderful. I would highly recommend this moving company!

I hired Safe and Responsible Movers a few months ago after I sold my condo with a 3 week turn-around before closing. I was nervous about finding a reliable moving company on relatively short notice, but Safe and Responsible Movers responded to my quote request form within a few hours, and I had my move booked with them within a day. Their pricing was unbeatable for the Boston area, and all of their requirements and recommendations were clearly laid out both in their emails to me and on their website. They even gave helpful hints and packing tips to save me money in terms of the amount of time the move would take! Having everything outlined in an email was super helpful for me because I could use it as a checklist to make sure I had everything organized and ready to go on moving day. I had a deceptively tricky move - from a 3rd floor walk up condo to a house on a hill with tight corners around the stairs. Chris and 2 of his movers promptly arrived at my condo and worked swiftly and carefully to bring my furniture and belongings to the truck. Even my neighbors commented on how quickly they were able to get the job done. My bed frame was tedious to take apart, but they spent time taking it apart and putting it back together for me in my new house which I greatly appreciated. They were very thorough and had me do a walk through to make sure everything was accounted for. The stairs at the new house have a tight turn on the bottom landing which made bringing my dresser up to the bedroom quite a challenge. I was nervous and felt so bad that I didn’t consider this space when requesting the move, but all three were patient and were able to make a few modifications to safely deliver the dresser. The time they took to carefully relocate furniture and boxes was next-level, and I couldn’t be happier with how safely everything made it from Point A to Point B. I have pets who I kept locked in one of the rooms during the move, and Safe and Responsible Movers were extremely accommodating and avoided that room entirely, so I didn’t have to worry about them getting in the way or accidentally getting outside. I really cannot express how professional, prompt, and kind this moving company was. I will recommend them to all of my friends and family looking for moving services - from booking the move to final touches at the new house, they were beyond amazing!

Safe Reliable Movers were fantastic. I was referred to them after a friend recently used them as well. Super communicative and responsible while setting up the appointment. On the day of my move it was the worst of Hurricane Elsa. The movers were quick, efficient, and kept all of my stuff perfectly dry. The pricing is also very competitive compared to other companies. I would 10/10 recommend these guys!

They came highly recommended for a good reason. They are nice, quick, and courteous. We have used them twice, and both times we were shocked at how quick and efficient they are. We were packed and ready to go, but they wrapped all dressers, mirrors, glass table tops, and the couch. As they were bringing stuff in, they checked in with me every time and asked where I wanted them to put the stuff. They also offered at the end to move anything, set anything up, or if we needed their help in any way. Couldn't believe how great of service it was. I'll be recommending them to my boss to use for her move, and anyone else that needs to move. Totally worth the price, and honestly it was a great price!

Questions & Answers

Do you have experience in moving gas appliances?

Mariana Marshall | Aug 3, 2022
Safe Responsible Movers | Aug 3, 2022

Yes, we do. However, if you have any hard-wired gas appliances (such as a dryer, stove, etc.), be sure to have a professional plumber disconnect the pipes prior to the move. Our movers cannot disconnect (or re-connect) any gas lines for any reason. We can unplug them from the wall, disconnect the aluminum venting pipe, and/or disconnect the washer from the water lines. But movers can't mess around with gas lines.

What if there is a Nor'easter during my scheduled move time?

Kirk Skinner | Aug 3, 2022
Safe Responsible Movers | Aug 3, 2022

In the event of a snow storm, hurricane, tornado, or excessive lightning, it is your responsibility to ensure that our movers have a safe walking path between our truck and the entrance through which thay'll be carrying your belongings. Our Boston moving company does not provide snow removal services. In the event of snowstorms, hurricanes, severe thunderstorms, or other dangerous weather, we reserve the right to delay your move until we feel that conditions are safe. (You will NOT be charged any kind of cancellation fee if we postpone due to weather)

What does an estimate of your moving services include?

Brandy Mullins | Aug 3, 2022
Safe Responsible Movers | Aug 3, 2022

When our moving company gives you an estimate, it includes everything you need to know including a flat travel fee and our hourly rate. We never charge extra for services like furniture disassembly or hoisting, or materials like stretch-wrap and tape because it’s all included.

What's your policy regarding damaged items?

Karl Mack | Jul 4, 2022
Safe Responsible Movers | Aug 3, 2022

Our moving company takes pride in the care we put into or work. That said, on rare occasion, items can be damaged. We request that any damage claims be reported to us within 48 hours of the completion of your move. This is to ensure than any damage reported did in fact occur during the move, and not at a later date. Please check our FAQs for more info on this topic.

Will you help move my pets?

Felicia Wall | Jul 4, 2022
Safe Responsible Movers | Jul 4, 2022

Our Boston-area movers will gladly move your empty fish-tank, lizard cage, or other small habitat. However, they cannot bring any live animals in the truck with them.

Do you have any tips for moving big appliances?

Daisy Melton | Aug 19, 2022
Safe Responsible Movers | Aug 19, 2022

Our crew of local movers has transported a huge number of appliances. Our key recommendation... If you are moving a refrigerator or air conditioner, please be sure to unplug it and let it defrost and then dry out for at least 24 hours before your movers arrive. You don’t want leaking water to damage your belongings in the truck.

Is your company licensed?

Deborah Bradley | Oct 7, 2021
Safe Responsible Movers | Oct 7, 2021

Absolutely. We are licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities as a carrier of household goods. Additionally, as required by state law, we carry workman’s compensation, general liability, cargo, and commercial auto insurance. As a result, we can always prepare a certificate insurance if your building requires it.

What are your fees?

Safe Responsible Movers | Sep 2, 2021
Safe Responsible Movers | Sep 2, 2021

The actual cost of your move depends upon where you're moving to and the type of valuables we'll be transporting. There are five types of charges you'll ever see from us: 1. Hourly rate: the hourly rate you pay for moving services. 2. Travel fee: a flat fee for the gas and labor used getting the truck, movers, and appropriate supplies to your job's starting location, and for returning to our lot upon finishing the move. 3. Permit acquisition fees: if you're moving to or from Boston, Brookline, or Somerville, we're happy to acquire and post moving permits on your behalf, if you'd like. 4. Permit costs: what each city charges for the permits themselves. The costs vary by city and neighborhood. 5. Cancellation fee: we charge $75 for any cancellations made less than 72 hours before the scheduled start time of the move, and the full two-hour minimum and travel fee for any cancellations made less than 24 hours before the scheduled move.

Safe Responsible Movers | Sep 2, 2021

Can you move me during the winter?

Safe Responsible Movers | Sep 2, 2021
Safe Responsible Movers | Sep 2, 2021

We can help you move anywhere in Massachusetts during any time of the year! However, the winters here can be challenging and unpredictable which is why we have a few important tips you should pay close attention to. First, we do not perform snow removal services for legal reasons. Our workman's compensation explicitly prohibits snow removal. So if it's looking like Mother Nature is ready to drop a few inches of snow before or on your moving day, you'll want to hire a snow removal professional to make sure your driveway and other pathways are clear. Your local police department or large "big box" stores can make some recommendations. If you have a big, bulky item that needs to be removed from an area of your home that isn't the front door, then you'll want to make sure the path to access it is clear and safe to walk on. You'll also need to remain flexible because a bad snowstorm or state of emergency may postpone your move. And that can be a better thing for all involved parties.

Do you move pianos?

Safe Responsible Movers | Sep 2, 2021
Safe Responsible Movers | Sep 2, 2021

We're happy to move upright pianos that are part of your residential or commercial move. We do not move a single piano on its own. For that specific type of service, we recommend hiring a piano moving company such as Titan Moving and Storage or Allston Piano Movers. If you do have a piano as part of your inventory of valuables that are being moved, please provide us with as much information about the instrument as possible when filling out our request form. Please include what kind of piano it is (upright or electric), the dimensions (if upright), if any parts are detachable, how the piano was originally moved into your building, and what obstacles you anticipate for us when we move the piano (stairways, long corridors, driveways, etc.) The more information you provide, the smoother the piano move will be!

Do I need a moving permit if I live in or are moving to Boston or Cambridge?

Safe Responsible Movers | Sep 2, 2021
Safe Responsible Movers | Sep 2, 2021

A moving truck can take up a lot of space on a narrow city street and in some cases, you may need a moving permit to park a truck there. If you live on a wide, quiet street, you probably don't need one. But many Boston neighborhoods such as the North End and Brookline have narrow streets that will require you to secure a moving permit. We're quite familiar with Boston's neighborhoods and gladly offer permit acquisition services in Boston, Brookline, and Somerville. If you're in Cambridge, you will need to apply for the permits yourself online and the city will post them for you. When you confirm your move with us via email, simply ask that we acquire and post a moving permit for you. We add the charges to your final bill. We charge $75 for a single permit, $125 for two locations, and $150 for three or more. Please keep in mind these fees are in addition to the cost each city charges for the actual permits. You can save a few bucks by securing and posting the permits yourself.
