If I could give zero stars I would. The owner of this hall knowingly held an event for minors and sold liquor to them. I attended an event with my 18 year old sister and when I turned around she had a alcoholic drink in her hand. I was appalled. The owner stood at the door, didn’t check IDs and made young women stand outside in the pouring rain, all because he could. This place is sad, and I hope someone better takes care of it.

Was invited to attend a dinner comedy event last night hosted by encorestl at empire hall. I was more than happy I attended. The venue is located on the east side of California street just south of Don Carlos Mexican restaurant on the south side of the Cherokee & California intersection. This was my first time attending an event by encore stl which hosted the entertainment which was fun, entertaining, and engaging with the audience. The host was well dressed and seemed comfortable carrying the vibe and encouraging participation from the crowd without forcing or making anyone feel uncomfortable. The venue itself is pleasantly decorated. Not over the top but enough to satisfy a classy crowd. ( no one wants to wear their Sunday’s best and then show up to a dirty place with tripping hazards strewn about to trip on with your heels and stain or mark your light colored dresses and pants!) The only thing I would have done different is the lighting from the stage was facing the crowd which made it difficult to see what I was looking at. Not a big deal though and perhaps this was intentional to create a dance floor atmosphere in front of the stage. The bathrooms were clean with amenities and toiletries provided such as cologne, qtips, toothpicks, and towels to dry your hands. Though there was no one working in the bathroom; it reminded me of the the classy joints back in the day that had an attendant working to assist the patrons and guest! Who doesn’t appreciate a clean bathroom with maybe some mints, mouthwash, or even a tide spot cleaner wipe just in case you need a quick freshen up or accidentally spilled a little something on your fresh outfit and need to treat that stain pronto! The service was spectacular. My server (London) was charming, dressed nicely, and seemed to have my experience in mind. She did not seem distracted or preoccupied with her personal life and there was no phone usage that I was aware of! She periodically checked up on me to make sure I was ok but was not overly concerned with making sure. Everything felt quite natural and comfortable. Then there was the food!!! I’m gonna start with the negatives. The brisket was my least favorite part. It was delicious, however it was encased in an unacceptable amount of fat which could have been trimmed off prior to its plating. It was also a little tougher than I would have preferred. The effects of this less than desirable brisket on my overall experience were negligible compared to the stellar quality received with everything else! Now the positives and mmm mmm mmm was it positive. The smoked chicken was on point. I can’t count the times (nor do I want to) that I’ve received chicken that is over cooked and dry but this chicken was IMO perfect. I tried it without the homemade bbq sauce first too just to check ( I think you can put bbq sauce on just about anything and it’ll taste good, lol) the real test is al acarte! The smoke flavored chicken had just the right amount of juices and flavor in it. Then there was the pork (I’ll call it tips but it may be butt or shoulder ) that was cooked to perfection also. Tossed in bbq sauce and served on a bun, I’d have to say that pork was on point. None of it was chewy or tuff and with each bite that my teeth sank through that meat I appreciated the quality and consistency of the pork. The homemade bbq sauce was delicious also. Not too thick ( which I prefer because I’m really going for the meat anyways and easy does it on the sauce for myself and I like to do a little dip then twisting motion allowing the excess sauce to run back into the vessel it came from!) and a nice blend of sweet and tangy! The baked beans were delicious and traditional and I wouldn’t see any reason anyone would be disappointed. The slaw was excellent and fresh as well. The cabbage still had a nice crunch to the bite and it was not overly sauced with dressing (one thing I’m no fan of is soggy soft slaw!) then the multi-colored cabbage and carrots used also created a slaw that was pleasing to the eye! My experience was excellent earning a 5-star review!
