Walked the bike most of the trail. Downhill was exciting in the dark .

You can get to Black Mountain after you reach the "end" of the PGE trail in Rancho San Antonio. It is a difficult hike, do not attempt if you are not used to using 2000 calories on hikes. Especially considering PGE itself may have wiped you out. Right after PGE trail you start with a bunch of switch backs, some of them are steep. Finish that and you get "normal" up-hills for about 0.5 miles. You can catch a breadth with a couple of small downhills which will prepare you for what might seem like an unending hill 😟 but once done you follow the trail left to see a gate - yeah half way through! Stay left to go Black Mountain trail - right takes you to Rhus Ridge. The next section is tough !! About 1/2 mile of hills but the views are spectacular so you can get your shots and most importantly a break 😃. Once you reach the top, you get a flat section and then a downhill which should get you ready for final set of hills (about 3) with small flat sections between them. The last hills big stones so watch out for them. You will see a another gate. Go past that and the antenna building to your right and the T make a right continue and the end of second T make left, Walk a few steps for the Vista point! Spectacular views once you get Black Mountain. TAKE WATER, there is no water on the way.

Perfect for trail run but parking is horrible. I park a mile away and run from there to avoid the frustration of not getting a parking spot. I actually like that better, because I can add a total of 2 miles on my run. It is a really lovely place to run; we usually run on Woods Trail, Umumhum, Santa Teresa, and Quicksiver. This is one of my of my favorite runs when I can do it :) There are plenty of trails so it's easy to decide if you want a long one or a short one, tough or easy. There are also nice restroom facilities which is a plus as not all Open Space Reserves have restroom facilities. If you haven't checked it out, do it, you won't be disappointed. I gave it a 4 star because of the parking issue...
