Fun place to visit and see how fish farming works. Lots of Brown, Rainbow and Brook trout growing in the big pens. The nursery pens were full of youngsters. Nuce short or long walk from the parking lot to picnic area and river

Cool spot to see a real fish hatchery. Quick visit if you don’t walk the trails.

The Walhalla State Fish Hatchery, located off Highway 107 in Long Creek, South Carolina.is an amazing place. They grow the trout that are eventually released into local tributaries, including the Chattooga River and Chauga River. Each section of the hatchery has increasingly larger fish. The full grown fish get released into the rivers. Great place to visit, the kids will love it. FYI...it is currently closed due to Covid-19.

The schedule changes throughout the year - At peak, up to 5-6 days a week... less than that in the summer. As someone who travels there 3-4 times a year, I've never seen a shortage of fish on the stream. The Chattooga River Fly Shop just down the road is a wealth of local knowledge as well. I hope that helps a little!
The fish hatchery gets a lot of traffic. The fish can get heavily pressured and stop biting.
