Thank you St. Dominic church for a beautiful service for my late aunt Luz. The church had ample parking and it was clean, organized and had beautiful stained windows.

They're pretty welcoming for the Non-catholics, I enjoyed the few interfaith conversations with Fr. Orlando Cardozo after services, he even let me inside once the services were done for the night so I may learn about my father's birth-faith. I just wish they (& many other churches) had pamphlets for new guests/noncatholics on what to say, do & when to stand or bow during services, I didnt know I couldnt get in line to drink wine/blood of Jesus & the cracker/flesh if I wasnt confirmed, I actually felt embarassed when I went up to the church ladies & didnt know what to say before receiving it, they told me its ok & to sit back down. Also, props to the piano players, most of them are pretty talented & I think they could make some money if they made a faith-based CD for the church. Personally, I walk to the parking lot to play Pokemon go (heads up for those who play, the gym there is pretty dead & I've defended 9 whole days straight, bringing my total time to well over a month. TEAM INSTINCT DOMINATES & IM THERE EVERY WEEK, BRING IT ON, NOBODY WILL BREAK MY RECORD) but the scenery itself is tranquil & spiritual, I'm a jew but I cant help but not settle my introspection & attempt to communicate to G-d. It feels kinda hypocritical since I find saints, especially statues to be idolatry & yet I find the Mary Y Bambino sanctuary the few quiet tranquil spots in this world where I can recollect my values & thoughts & individual efforts to connect with this idea of a definitive moral Sovereign, law of nature/physics & unstoppable unseeable force that propells time, space & the interpersonal world around us, pray to it in hopes that it may be conscious, able to hear me & spare me shelter & refuge from this cold cruel universe & the streets that will make you or break you. Lastly, the statue has acted a bit of a motivator in learning to carve/mold clay or wood to create 3d figure art, & although Ive barely been able to progress in any 3d art, its made me practice alot regardless. I'm pretty greatful this church exists, Ive never been a fan of the Catholic establishment & history, but this place tamed my disdain for modern/today's catholicism.

The presence of Spanish Dominican friars in Florida stretches back to the mid 1500s; several friars from Spain eagerly responded to Bishop Coleman Carroll’s invitation to serve the then newly-established Miami Archdiocese. From its inception in 1962, Spanish friars staffed Saint Dominic parish where Mass was first celebrated at the Henry M. Flagler school auditorium, at the Fairlawn Elementary School, and at a nearby Ukrainian church. Parishioners also formed religious education classes. The former National Children’s Cardiac Home a building slated for demolition was purchased and renovated into a rectory, religious education classrooms and a worship space, and dedicated in 1963. The parish continued to grow, and parishioner already active in service outreach ministries embraced changes ushered in by Vatican II and became active in liturgical ministries. Parishioners launched a capital campaign in 1979 to build a larger church, which was completed and dedicated in 1981. Dominican friars from the newly formed Southern Dominican Province of the United States took over responsibility for the parish from the Spanish Dominicans in 1980. Their commitment to the parish remains strong.
