No sooner do you walk into Umberto’s and gaze upon a fine collection of men’s apparels, does The Godfather of Style rises from his chair to greet you. Always smartly dressed in a dapper suit, Umberto welcomes you to what feels like a scene from a Scorsese film. On the walls are pictures of the rat pack who Umberto fitted back in the day. You would expect DeNiro or Pesci to walk out of the fitting room wearing a jacket and boxers asking about what pair of trousers would look best with it. While Umberto lets you know his best price on the latest styles from Italy, always with room to negotiate, David steps in to suggest colors, patterns and accessories. The best part is standing in front of the angled mirrors wearing my new ensemble while David marks up the fabric with chalk and needles for their on-site tailor. Umberto always stands by to let David know exactly how to do it while David reminds Umberto exactly how long he’s been doing it. Their routine never gets old. Great store. Great style. Great people.

It was 9:30 pm and I needed a suit, right away! As I drove by Umberto's, I saw a man (Tony) dressing the showroom mannequins. I stopped, put it in reverse, and asked if he could help me. He actually stopped what he was doing and asked me several questions. Then, he told me to return the following morning and whom to ask for and mention a particular discount price. That is excellent customer service in my book! Umberto's is without a doubt, a premiere, high-end men's clothier. I fell in love with this place immediately and will definitely return because the materials and products are absolutely beautiful, top of the line quality. I left there amazed at how many items I wanted to take home! Everywhere I turned, something caught my eyes. I do have to mention the prices are not for the faint of heart, but as the saying goes, "You get what you pay for..." In this case, it's the finest Italian materials available. Moreover, Umberto is a real charmer! I didn't realize that Mr. Umberto Autore was once the tailor to so many famous people, including Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack, Dr. Jerry Buss, and many more. He even has a terrific book of his life, written by Mark A. Thompson, that details his life from an orphanage in Italy to becoming a tailor to such entertainment icons and business moguls. Umberto's is a Long Beach gem, and truly a throwback to the highest quality materials and hands on customer service like I've never seen, where everything is written on paper, not computerized. I was fitted by David, (an incredibly sharp dressed man!) and also helped by Christina, the store manager, who really tried to help me by discounting the final suit price. Although I wasn't able to make a purchase on my first visit, I was treated with the utmost respect and goodwill, no hard feelings whatsoever. Plus, it's the kind of family business I personally like to support and I will absolutely return there in the foreseeable future to do so. I highly recomnend Umberto's for anyone who wants to make a statement with their appearance or is simply interested in unique, top of the line materials and products, as well as superior customer service. You won't be disappointed with how they treat you or the beautiful products, which were truly a feast for my eyes, everywhere I turned. Stop by and see for yourself. You won't be disappointed and you will realize how much of a difference these products can do for your appearance, as well as your self-confidence!

Picked up my favorite suit from the dry cleaner the night before leaving for a destination wedding to find the seat of the pants had been damaged. Had to turn to my next best suit which I avoid wearing because of fit. Desperate, I called Umberto at 5:05p on Saturday. Tony welcomed me to the store and said he and his tailor Geno would wait until i arrived even though they closed at 5:30. I arrived at 520 and they expertly tailored my pants on the spot! Cannot say thank you enough for that level of service.

Our family had been buying clothing from Umberto, his family, and his professional staff for 15 years or more. Great quality and service. Our sons always look sharp and have worn Umberto’s clothes or tailoring since they were kids. I feel great when I wear my tailored clothes.
