Awesome dive! Great people

Good bar, great people. Places like this are a dying breed. Was the highlight of my trip, after dealing with the other typical LA image driven douchbaggery.

I am a pool player and I usually only go to bars that have at least one table. Michael's is a great little bar to go shoot pool, especially during the day, and not have to wait in a long list of players to get a chance to play on a valley box. Michael's is a member of the local APA Pool League, so the table is a standard size and is in pretty good condition. During the afternoon the number of players increase and usually by the evening the list of names can get pretty long. (And, like I mentioned before, some evenings they have league.) But, while you wait they have two dart board/game machines, several televisions, music/jukebox, nice outdoor seating behind the bar, a couple of game consoles on either end of the bar, etc... I don't really drink, but from what I hear and from the few drinks I have purchased, the prices and the quality are decent. The bartenders are great and they all have been with the place forever. It's a great bar, full of locals that are friendly.

THIS IS A DIVE BAR. AN ACTUAL DIVE BAR. IF YOU EXPECT UPSCALE AND PERFECT SERVICE GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. That being said, I love this little locals only, hole-in-the wall spot. Doesn't really look like a bar from outside but it's there. Place is usually very quiet unless it's a Friday or Saturday night in which case there would be a total of 20 people including the bartender there. Might be a weird crowd but this place doesn't really get too crowded. Kay is a sweetheart and makes nice strong drinks. They have a digital jukebox, a pool table and three dart boards. Awesome place that won't put a dent in your wallet.

Beer is offered in bottles and cans with the majority of the selection being domestics. They do have some local fare (Lagunitas, 805, etc.) as well as Fat Tire (occasionally) and cider. Liquor selection is on par with most dives, so they don't delve too deeply into any one type of spirit compared to a cocktail bar. Basically if they don't have exactly what you want there's probably an acceptable alternative available.
It is! Good eye!
