Lots of improvements have been made and extremely hard efforts by staff and management to give the wonderful and unique residents the best quality of life possible. Although there’s always room for improvement, skylark is doing a wonderful job at acknowledging the issues and hard times and working hard to fix them!

I have care of a friend who was put here, his third AL residency, and I have to say this is by far the worst. Staff changes constantly, poor communication, no calls returned, not doing what they say they will, inadequate care, no continuity. Did I say communication? Just the worst.

My Mother-in-law moved into Skylark's Memory Care in July of 2015. The Memory Care Administrator at the time was caring and professional, so were most of the caregivers and staff. A few months later everything changed, all the staff we had met, was gone. My Mother-in-laws' (95 years old at the time) care situation changed for the worse, I could tell she was not being showered, was wearing wrinkled dirty clothes, and some times when I went to visit she had bruises on her arms/legs but could not remember how she got them. All her nice, good quality clothing was lost, her jewelry and bed spreads were gone too. For two years I had to buy pants, sweaters, underwear (and bed items) on a regular basis because when we needed to take her out for different reasons, staff could not find clothes to dress her. There were times when we got to Skylark to take Mom out and she was not wearing underwear, she also had "poop" on her pants and the caregivers didn't even noticed or didn't care. Skylark Memory Care cottages are not particularly big so, staff was supposed to take the residents outside when the weather is nice, this completely stopped when one of their residents tried to "jump" the fence. The last year of Moms' stay at Skylark I saw new staff who couldn't answer my questions (even regarding her health, scary) didn't know who to talk to, and were talking/playing on their phones or watching TV. There were occasions when Mom was sick and nobody called to let us know. I would found out when I visited. Mom was in her room and was told not to come out because she would infect other residents. The other residents already had the same problem Mom had. Most had been told to stay in their rooms, as well. I know this because I was always asking about other women with whom I had developed a relationship. And, if things were not bad enough, Skylark contracted this person who calls herself a doctor, Karen Khan. She never (even when Mom had many surgeries) bother to call us regarding Moms' health. Kahn had in possession a document from Jackson County Court stating we were my mothers' fiduciary. One of the papers signed specifically stated she was not to do anything without contacting us first. She never called but made medication changes. She was asked to check my mothers' ears for blockage - a requirement for setting up an ears' doctor appointment. It took 2 months (she is at Skylark once a week). We found a new Memory Care location for Mom. We moved her out of Skylark a couple of months ago. Needless to say she left with a quarter of her clothing, little jewelry, a recliner with dried poop on it, and mens' socks instead of her compression socks I had just purchased. The one star my husband and I are giving Skylark, belong to two Memory Care caregivers who are carrying the weight in the two cottages. Without them, the residents would be lost. Also, the food is not bad.

My mother moved in June of 2015. The place has been sold to new owners since then. In my opinion, it has deteriorated. In the memory care cottage where my mother lives, there are seldom activities provided for the residents. They spend most of their time in the day room, just sitting there. This was not the case before. When she moved in, the food was very good. Lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. That has changed. The food is much more like institution food. Very disappointing. On Saturday, the room was dirty and smelled of urine. On a positive note, there are some very caring caregivers that work real hard and care about the residents.
