Once you’re at the Intoxalock location, you can expect your appointment to take one to two hours — time varies based on the make, model and year of your vehicle. You can plan to either leave your vehicle or pick it up when installation is complete. Our Intoxalock team is highly trained to quickly and carefully install your equipment.
Intoxalock has more than 4,200 locations for your interlock device installation. Intoxalock has more locations than any other provider. In fact, we have a location within 15 miles of over 91% of our customers. With so many places to install and service your ignition interlock device, our team makes the process as convenient as possible.
At your appointment, you will learn how to use the Intoxalock ignition interlock device, what to avoid before blowing into the device, and how to maintain the device. Tutorial videos are also available on the Intoxalock mobile app.
An ignition interlock device, also frequently referred to as a car breathalyzer, ranges in cost between $70 and $150 for installation. This fee is a one-time fee paid at the start of your lease period for the device to be installed into your vehicle. This fee is paid directly to the service center for the work done to complete your installation.
Once the device is installed, drivers blow into the car breathalyzer mouthpiece to provide a breath sample. The device tests for breath alcohol content (BrAC) within the legal limit. If it's under the limit (typically .02), then the driver can put their keys in the ignition and start the car.
