LITERALLY the BEST experience touring EVER!!!! The Leasing Manager is sooo sweet and cool her name is Aa’Jahlee-Soleil she goes by lily. I love her personality and attitude. She showed me everything and talked to me while on tour and we had such a heart to heart convo. I noticed how she interacted with the residents and their kids and even their dogs. I toured some weeks ago and I’ll definitely be back in a few months when my lease is up and I move there. I am not a review person but she deserved it. But make sure you GO TO HER!!!!

I caught COVID and management refused to alert tenants in the building! I had emailed in to the general manager on 7/19/21, nearly two weeks prior to catching COVID, to voice my concerns about how lax the mask policies had gotten in common areas, and to ask if the building would be reinstating required masking in light of the Delta variant. My email went ignored. Only after following up a week later did I hear back that the decision rested with the corporate office. The CDC changed their masking guidance to recommend universal indoor masking on 7/27/21, but management did not implement this policy until 8/3/21 (two days after I wrote in to inform them of my positive case). Nobody even got back to me until 2 days after alerting them I had Covid! They said they don't report confirmed cases in the building to other residents (with no explanation as to why not), even though I was requesting they do so! Unbelievable. In addition to this, in the nearly six months I've been living here, there has been a persistent knocking sound on my ceiling that management has shown no urgency to address. Likewise, there is a noisy radiator that annoyingly ticks all day that management claims is just a feature of the building, and therefore nothing can be done about it. Though it's no fault of management and despite units themselves being relatively soundproof, constant street noise from motorcycles, sirens, cars with modified engines, and a reverberating bass from the nearby Athletic Club sports bar seeps in and makes living here less than relaxing. Not to mention the avalanche of crime that happens on a daily basis in the neighborhood. Lastly, I found the leasing agent I dealt with prior to moving in rather shady (would give me one rate then come back and offer less of a discount than she originally mentioned). Once I moved in, she was less than sympathetic to my issues of complaint. She no longer works in the leasing office, I'd add. Avoid this place.

My partner and I have only lived here for a few weeks now, but so far we are very impressed by all aspects of the living experience here at The Grand. We are particularly impressed by the management and maintenance here, as they are prompt and attentive to detail - which is a huge contrast to many of the other luxury apartment buildings in Oakland. Special shout-out to Efrain, who has gone out of his way to complete all of our maintenance requests in a timely and attentive way.
