You can try and get an appt on line, no call necessary. That's it as far as convienience goes. Period. My prediction ? At least 6 weeks before first available appt. in 6 County bay area. Even if you could get one at LEAST 1 hour wait when you arrive. Solution? 3-5 hours (at least) erased from your life waiting on line at your fav dmv. And that's if everything goes smoothly. God forbid you forget a form or make a mistake on your paperwork. 2/22? You still have about 3 weeks. So when you figure out that the "call for appt" strategy is worthless, you'll go to dmv 2-3 times but never even park because the line to get into the building to get a number to START the 3-5 hour wait is soooo long you don't even slow down. Finally in 2/21 you get up at 4am, they open 930am and you still lose 5 hours of you life and you won't believe that you still wait another 1.5 hours when you get inside. If everything goes well. Yes. Both test are being done. Lines on Mondays and Tuesdays around 10 am until lunch at 1pm are when they're the shortest. Early mornings around 7 am lines start forming for a 9 am opening..if your not in line by 420, you'll be told they can't see you and come back tomorrow. Walk ins go by faster than. Set appointments for reasons I'll never really be too sure of. But yes, written tests are being done, but it's not written, it's done on a kiosk, multiple choice questions. If you don't get passing score, you'll get another opportunity, and you'll know the answers u missed so you can make sure you don't make the same mistakes twice!

Entrance through the main doors on the Oak St side. The line can wrap around the building due to distancing. Having documents uploaded speeds up the process. They came out and checked with people in line, those with the STOP email were asked to show the original documents of the uploaded ones and we're then brought inside. If it's open you can walk in anytime to get Real ID but you need to bring 2 forms of valid proof that you live at your address, eg utility bill.

This happened to me too, you will need proof that you had a drivers license previously otherwise they will make you retake the driving test. You can either bring in a photocopy of your old DL (front and back) or get a driving record from the state you're coming from. I learned this the hard way when i made an appointment and didn't have these documents so i had to come back without an appointment and wait for hours.
