We had an appointment for Aug 4th this year for a chimney "grind and point" and the installation of a new chimney liner. It was going to be 99+ degrees that day with full sun. I was afraid for their safety and would have gladly postponed the job for another day. Ryan L and AJ Handsome arrived on time and didn't want to postpone the job. They got busy right away. They worked safely, were friendly, diligent, hardworking and did a beautiful job. The nature of the job is that it makes a mess. They cleaned up everything, starting at the roof, all the way down to the lawn. I worked with Brenda in the office to start the process and she is a very pleasant person to deal with. I would highly recommend them.

I met with a lot of chimney companies / masons regarding a rebuild from roof. Northeastern was the only company who did not overcomplicate the job. From the salesman Jesse to Brenda who keeps everything moving smoothly to Frank & Dave who completed our job on time, every one was kind and responsive. Frank & Dave’s crew kept the surrounding areas protected and clean, hosed down and vacuumed the area after the job was complete, and were finished in a day and a half. My dad, a retired mason, loves the work as well. Thank you!

Excellent work at a reasonable price! We live in a house build in 1949, renovated (poorly) in the 1970's. Our fireplace NEVER was functional. The only way to keep a fire going was to chop the logs practically to kindling, at which point the fire burned out in 30 minutes. We had NorthEastern Chimney come by to do an inspection. Turns out, someone installed a firebox in the 1970's, which was meant to function more like a stove (i.e. with doors closed.) But what we wanted was a proper crackling fire that would last the evening. Joe Shear observed that, over time, cinders accumulate on the top of the firebox, creating a fire hazard. He also showed us photos of water damage inside the chimney, which interferes with the flow of air up the chimney, which leaves the fire starved of oxygen. Joe emailed us a detailed proposal with photographs. The solution was to dispose of the firebox, apply a process to the flu called "parging," during which cement sealant is pressed into every crack and crevice, making a smooth surface for airflow. The technicians also installed a new top-of-the-chimney mounted damper with a chain to the fireplace below, and applied waterproofing to the exterior chimney stones. In addition, the technicians showed me two places on the roof where water could get into the house, and also recommended where to install flashing to prevent water from dripping down the chimney exterior (which could discolor the stones.) Lastly, the technicians measured the opening, came back a week later with a metal border to surround the fireplace opening and a beautiful decorative grill. Scheduling the work was breeze. Every one arrived exactly on time for each appointment, and was conscientious about wearing face masks while in our home. We were very satisfied with the work! David and Randy

Questions & Answers

Do chimney cleaning logs really work?

Sparky Boy | Aug 30, 2020
Northeastern Masonry & Chimney | Oct 4, 2021

Although the chemicals in the logs are designed to change the composition of glazed creosote, the majority of creosote will not be removed by these logs. In other words, they are not intended to replace a professional cleaning.
