I’ve been going since 2016, for almost 3 years. Simply put, it has been life changing. I am so grateful for this community! People here are very accepting. The talks are super thought-provoking. Nathan the lead pastor and his wife Marla are super entrepreneurial, super creative, super hospitable to even people who are very different, and yet it’s because of their love for God, his purposes, and their love for all people, even those who seem very different, and those who seemed like they have nothing to offer. I trust their ideas because they’re about love in prayer and action, even when it seems inconvenient or even unbalanced. I started to nurture the hope that I was made for something more than what my life was or felt like. And being in the C3 small Thursday night group is an amazing time to practice living out my calling to lend a hand, an ear, and pray for people. We have seen people healed in Jesus’ name, but it’s funny because it’s not like people getting prayed for start convulsing and crying out really loudly or anything crazy. Not saying that hasn’t happened, but usually, it just seems so calm and beautiful and I see a genuine but almost quiet gratitude. People here are so generous and willing to help each other. Jesus is always preached. The Word is always taught. So many people here are not just church goers. They are part of a force that’s becoming unstoppable. A sermon that meant a lot to me, about Jesus in the Garden if Gethsemane, was that he told the disciples to watch and pray so that they do not enter temptation. But they fell asleep. Sometimes the temptation is not food or sex or addictions or substances. Sometimes, it’s making comfort an idol. This is what spoke to me. I’d given up trying to aim for a higher calling. Sometimes the temptation is to live a small life because we want to feel comfortable. Another good one for me is that peace-making doesn’t necessarily mean being quiet and staying out of the way as to not offend, but it means following Jesus into uncomfortable conversations with people we love. Another conversation I had in a group helped me to realize that I only know how to love people who are just like me. That would’ve been fine or good if I only wanted my life to impact a handful of people including my blood family. I think my life has started to change at one of the talks in July (this year is 2018) or maybe June. I just remembered being so sick of being so limited by myself and my past, and hearing that when you have an encounter with Jesus, He changes your whole worldview, and you’re never the same. Having been a Christian for decades, since I was 9 years old, I just thought that my life was supposed to be that way—only difficult, sometimes really happy, other times, too often disappointing and boring, and that my God-given dreams seemed too unrealistic for me. I looked up at the speaker, Nathan, when he had us ask ourselves the question if we need to have a personal encounter with Jesus in our lives, even if it’s been many years since being alive in Christ. My faith in Jesus almost left me so many times in my adult life, but I believe God used Humanity (and others in my community who were referred to me by someone from Humanity) to usher in breakthrough. A few weeks after that sermon in summer, I saw the difference. I can say that I think about others a lot more than before. I’m much more excited to give and serve, but this time, not to get anything in return. My relationship and intimacy with my husband has grown by leaps and bounds. I have so so so so much more to say but it’s way better when you try to experience this church for yourself.
