This park is a wonderful restoration with terrific displays and explanations of the area’s history. There are many buildings to explore that are decorated completely. It’s just a few miles off the highway, so it’s a great stop if you’re driving between Ord and Burwell.

Wish it had been a warmer day for our visit with our group. Enjoyed our faster than I usually like visit to a piece of our history.

Really enjoyed my visit to Fort Hartsuff. Nine of the buildings are the original historic buildings, 1874-1881. Unlike most other fort's of the same era, wood was not available for construction, so grout was used instead, and they're still standing today. No employees were available, but all of the fort buildings were opened for visitation, with maps, and access to orientation film for visitors. Highly recommended.

Very well kept up. Unable to go in due to Covid, but could look in windows. Plan to return when Covid goes away. Some amazing huge trees!!

What days are the demonstrations and during which months ?

Sally Hilderbrant | Jan 8, 2020
Cathy Glinsmann | Jan 9, 2020

The demonstrations are done on the weekends by volunteers. They do some reenactments, the bakery and blacksmith are also working. Usually after Memorial Weekend. Check out their website.

Is there any camping there?

There is no camping at Fort Hartsuff. It is a historical park as it was a frontier fort from the 1870s. There is camping within 20 minutes of there: Calamus has multiple camping areas near the lake and the town of Burwell has a few spots at the city park. Good luck and happy camping!

How did fort hartsuff get its name.

Named after a military officer. There was information about him at the fort. And I imagine it can be found on line.
