Maybe I went the wrong time of the year (June) but very little to do and see. Not a lot of flowers or plants and the building was closed.

McCrillis Gardens is such a beautiful location! I've photographed families, couples, and graduation portraits so many times here. The blooms in the spring/summer are soooo gorgeousl. In the fall this places looks as beautiful with all the colorful leaves on the huge trees around and all over the ground. In the winter, it looks perfectly covered in snow. Every season, this place is so unique. I also really love this location because it's quiet and not a lot of people are around. Parking is super easy, you can park in the neighborhood or at the academy across from the garden. It's less than a minute walk.

Very nice place for a stroll! All grass/dirt, a bit bumpy, but wide and smooth enough for a stroller. Best to go when all the flowers are in bloom, closer to April-May. By the time we went, most of of flowers had already bloomed. Lots of little, interconnecting trails with shade. Easy to park just down the street in the nearby neighborhood. Free.

A small nature park for a leisure walk amidst neighborhood residences. With keen observation and slow pace, one may find quite a few surprises any time of the season along the park path. During my recent early March visit, several plants are in full bloom : a tall plum-cherry hybrid tree, a Korean rhododendrons, red Camelias and varieties of daffodils.

Questions & Answers

Are the plants native, non native, or a mix. At this point I think ALL parks should have only native non invasive plants.

McCrillis Gardens is a part of our larger Montgomery Parks system, which has a plethora of diverse offerings, including unmanaged woodlands, urban parks, ballfields, playgrounds, and gardens. McCrillis, like other public gardens, is maintained as a harmonious composition of native and ornamental plants. Invasive species with a potential to multiply and spread outside its borders are promptly removed or curtailed. Ecological sustainability is enhanced at McCrillis and many of our other parks by planting native ecotypes gathered locally and grown by our own county park natives’ program. The recipe may vary among parks with different uses and purposes. Preservation and environmental responsibility are at the forefront of our goals, while offering park patrons a place of recreation, leisure, and beauty.

Is there a parking lot?

There is a circular driveway that is publically accessible during daylight hours, however i believe prolonged parking is discouraged there. The Woods Academy across the street has a spacious lot, though.
