Despite feeling the whole smog business and required emissions testing is a racket, Star Smog always does a great job getting me in and out fast (less than 15 minutes this time). I think this was my fourth time here, and the front desk staff is always friendly and warm. They understand none of us wants to be there, and they know how to get business done quickly. The smog certification is always sent electronically to DMV quickly, too.

I had an appointment to come in and they when I got there I was informed that they don’t have a mechanic. Nobody bothered to call. They said they didn’t have my phone number. Well I am a customer and I’ve been there before. These front desk people need to use their head a little bit. They could’ve found my phone number and called me I don’t think they really care I won’t trust them with my car after this because they don’t have a good system in place for the customers and their customer service does not exist Who knows if that spills over to their mechanics. No confidence in this service anymore!!

It was a little hard to find as I was expecting a huge "Smog" sign but was a good experience. 2 rules to remember. 1. Write down your mileage 2. Let them know you have a coupon before you start (looked them up). Excellent pricing and minimal wait.

Smog re check $28 additional fee. Quick re checks with code reader before running official test again. Tip received by another mechanic was to drive my car under 65 mph but not under 25 mpg and do not brake for 25 miles minimum. This was after dead battery needed replacement and to reset the computer in my car. I had failed the test 3 times before someone explained that process to me but it worked! I have a 2002 with 19,000 or now 19,400 wasted 400 miles trying to reset computer!🤦🏼♀️

If you bring us the car, we can inspect it! Your renewal notice (the one with the large barcode across the top) will expedite your visit, but is not required.
Aftermarket parts such as air intakes need a sticker with an EO# affixed to the vehicle to prove that those parts are legal for street use in California. If you have questions about specific parts on your car, ask us before we start the smog check, not after.
No. However, you may still want to have your car tested anyway so you can take advantage of the Consumer Assistance Program to help pay for repairs.
Yes. We use the Vehicle Identification Number that is imprinted on the vehicle itself to identify the vehicle with the DMV.
Yes. We can perform a smog test on your car whether or not it has been directed to a test-only center or a star-certified center
Yes, we can. However, since motorhome smog checks are performed outside our bays, we prefer that you bring your motorhome during dry weather
Maybe. Diesel vehicles 1997 and older are smog exempt. Diesel vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight over 14,500 lbs are also exempt from the smog inspection.
Yes, we do! The result of your test is electronically transmitted to the DMV’s computer when your test is completed. You will also receive a signed and dated copy for your own personal records.
