Picture a blacksmith shop from a story. You just pictured Furnace Creek. A gorgeous old barn retrofitted into a full blacksmith shop, stocked with cool anvils, hammers, tongs, big metal presses, a stone coal forge, and a fiery furnace sitting on top of a giant old saw blade. My buddy and I took a 4 hour beginner class here while camping at Hickory Run State Park. Allen was a fantastic teacher, walking us through every step, explaining the tools, guiding us, and encouraging us when we made mistakes (which was often). The workshop was organized, and Allen took safety very seriously. He showed us where to stand, made sure we had eye protection, and taught us how to handle and check tools for heat. With his guidance, we made a couple of cool practice pieces and then a fancy, rustic wall hook. I never would have even considered trying something like blacksmithing, and I am so glad we checked this place out. Thank you Allen for sharing your knowledge and for all your patience! We had an amazing time.
