Paul Flaherty Plumbing and heating was commisioned by my home repair insurance company to repair a leak under the kitchen sink. On the appointment day, the office notified me that the plumber was on his way. I called my tenant to inform her, and she told me that the toilet was also leaking. I immediately called the company to ask if they could also fix the toilet leak. A woman answered the call and quoted me $75 for a “service call” plus an additional $75 for every half an hour for the actual work. I asked her why she wanted to charge a service call fee since the plumber was already going to be in the building. After placing me on a brief hold, she told me the service charge would be waived and asked for my credit card information. Fifteen minutes or so later, I called the tenant back to check the status, and she told me the plumber had already left and that he said to her that the toilet screws were loose and that he tightened them. I asked her how long the plumber was in the apartment working, and she replied, “No more than fifteen-twenty minutes.” So I called the office back and spoke with the owner. I explained that it would be unfair for him to charge me the full $75 for tightening two screws given that his contractor spent less than thirty minutes in total (to repair the sink and toilet) and that the amount paid by my insurance should cover the time the contractor took to tighten the toilet screws. He responded that he had to wait until he received the work summary report from his guy to determine how much to charge me. A week later, today, he called me and told me that the company had charged me $115 but that he credited my account and only charged me $75. I asked him to share his contractor’s summary, and he read an embellished report to justify the $75 charge. I reiterated my point to him, authorized him to charge his $75 fee, and stated that I would write a review about the unjustified and excessive fees. He did not seem to care whether or not I wrote a review. Despite the company’s poor integrity, I must report that the plumber did a great job. Thank you, Mr. Plumber. However, I cannot say that I was pleased with the owner and the attendance who answered the phone, as they showed no sympathy and only seemed to care about collecting the excessive charge. I hope those reading this review will use their due diligence and get multiple quotes. I trusted the company would be honest with their pricing since my home repair insurance company had vetted them. Lesson learned.

My shower valve handle was leaking, so we had to shut off the water to the entire house. This became an emergency. I called Paul Flaherty Plumbing & heating. The owner, Paul, got on the phone. He said he could get someone there between 3 & 5pm, it was 11:00am when I called. I went home to wait for the plumber and they showed up a half an hour early. They, the plumber & apprentice, quickly diagnosed and repaired the problem. Very professional and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend Paul Flaherty Plumbing & Heating.

I set up an appointment to fix a leak in my pvc pipe. They quoted me the amount to repair the pipe on the call as a by the hour rate. Instead of repairing the pipe the guy came for 10 minutes and left and then called later and said it would cost $800+ to repair. This was ridiculous for a simple pvc pipe repair so I got another plumber for $225. Then I see a charge on my credit card. Turns out Flaherty charges me $90 for coming out and doing nothing despite never informing me there would be a charge just to come out. They quoted me only a charge to repair which they never did. Needless to say it was a terrible experience and very shady from start to finish. I will never use this company again.

My water bills are going up, but I don’t think we have a leak. What’s going on?

Paul Flaherty Plumbing & Heating | Aug 27, 2021

Your toilet may be leaking silently.

Why do I run out of hot water?

Paul Flaherty Plumbing & Heating | Aug 27, 2021
Paul Flaherty Plumbing & Heating | Aug 27, 2021

It could be because of your water heater. The first thing we do is look at your water heating needs. Then we look to see if the water heater is working properly and delivering the water that it’s supposed to. If it is, it may just not be sized properly.

How much will your services cost?

Paul Flaherty Plumbing & Heating | Aug 27, 2021
Paul Flaherty Plumbing & Heating | Aug 27, 2021

That is very difficult to say without seeing the problem. You should never receive a price sight unseen. If a plumber is able to tell you how much something costs before they even look at the problem, I wouldn’t trust the price they gave you.

How can I check if I have a leak?

Paul Flaherty Plumbing & Heating | Aug 27, 2021
Paul Flaherty Plumbing & Heating | Aug 27, 2021

If you think you have a leak in your home, there’s an easy way you can check. Go out to your water meter and record the level. Make sure no one uses any water for a few hours, then go back and check the meter again (it’s easiest to do this when everyone goes to bed, then check it again first thing in the morning). If the level has changed, you probably have a leak.
