Easy peasy. Check out the picture I posted of a cell tower on the property and look at the small car sized BALD EAGLE nest on top! What better way to be greeted at the border than to see a badass eagle! Made me want to stand and sing the national anthem!

Crossed on 10 July from Canada with my family for work. The US Customs agents we interacted with were respectful, professional, and efficient. Certainly one of my best interactions at a border crossing even with the current restrictions in place. (for those wondering, no COVID test was required to cross)

For people coming for Global Entry interview, don't worry about the bad reviews. The officers on the Global Entry side of things were super nice and I was done in 10 minutes. The officer was genuinely amused by how to pronounce my name and kept calling me "Sir" to not get my name wrong. All of this in a friendly way. Gave me a nice handshake at the end. I won't meting his name for privacy reasons.

Calais is in Maine. Which is part of the United States of America. This ArriveCAN App you speak of is a Canadian Proprietary System. In having said all that, try your luck at St. Stephen New Brunswick Canada. Specifically, "Ferry Point" or "3rd Bridge." Good Luck.
If you have the receipts showing you have paid for the renewals, you should be able to cross. It's honestly up to the discretion of the border agent. My advice would be to call ahead to the border and explain your issue to them.
No services may be slower but are availible.
No PCR test needed to return from Canada into the United States. Show travel documents, vaccination records and car rental agreement to the Officer for inspection.
yes
There are no COVID restrictions for US citizens entering the US (as far as customs is concerned). So if you have a valid passport/card you should be good.
