My wife called October 25th roughly 9:30 am. We were leaving our home and found a very young cat laying on our side road. It was trying to get up but couldn't, and was crying loudly. We waited for a few and it seemed not any better. In a panic my wife called Darke County "Animal " Shelter. They told my wife they do not handle cats and to call the Humane society. Have us their number. We called and called and no answer, no voice mail nothing. So she called back to Darke county "Animal" Shelter and was still told they do not do cats. What the heck. It clearly states Darke County Animal Shelter. They advised us to take the cat to a vet, like we really know who to call or anything. They refused my wife's pleas relentlessly!!! She was so upset crying not knowing what to do. I went and got a box and in the mean time a woman at the Humane society answered their phone and my wife explained the situation and was told to bring in right away. Got the cat in the box and my wife sat in the back seat with the cat. Talking to it and telling the cat it will be ok. It scratched its ear one time they laid its head back down. As soon as we got to the Humane Society they were waiting at the door for us. By the time we got inside this poor baby passed. My wife was besides herself. She was so hoping that this cat could be saved. She is so upset with the Darke County "Animal" Shelter. No concern no offering of help nothing from them. They need to remove the "Animal" from their title!!!. This is not our first problem with them. We live out in the country but our neighbors dogs constantly for the last 3 years roam free and poop in our yard all the time. We have 3 rescues who we have on runs when outside. Didn't matter to them when I complained to them they wanted me to get pictures of the dogs on our yard. Thought why should we but my wife did. Then took pictures to the shelter and was told how do we know that's your property???? They are the most un-caring , non supportive organization I have ever dealt with. I will never again support them, nor give them food. My resources will go to the Humane Society. Darke County "Animal " Shelter is a joke and I would not recommend them to anyone. Hopefully the Humane Society will get there strays.

Commissioners are anti Pitbull, who have no experience with the shelter or animals. Been told of improper training amongst employees! Appears short handed and unorganized, definetely poor management! Commissioners and management need gone and they need some compassionate workers, not sure what happened to the one person running the Facebook page, heard good things about her! She probably quit due to problems within the shelter!! Get it together Darke County!!!!
