I was pleasantly surprised with today’s visit to make an application for social security. The staff were all so helpful, polite and professional! There was no unnecessary delays or waiting time. Mrs English who served me was a delightful person and processed my application smoothly and quickly 😁

We pay lots of money and they don't even have the decency to place a shade for people doing line outside with high temperatures. About 50% of people in line had a disability or where elderly and this heat was no good for them. I arrived around 11am and I'm still waiting to be called now at 3pm. It's crazy, insane how they haven't improve their services. They don't hire more people and don't improve their processes. They have an option to fill any forms online, which I did, but when you arrive, they don't even have a dedicated line for people that already filled the forms. We pay them to work for us with our taxes and they don't do a good job

The people that work here do not care about helping people. I was yelled at and hung up on because I was asking too many questions. People that work here are horrible. If you have hung up on someone I hope you read this and are ashamed of yourself. You work in a field that makes a difference in peoples lives and you treat them like dirt. Consider a different field!!!!

The amount of times I’ve called this office to locate my personal documents that I sent in is ridiculous. I mailed them in a month ago and no one knows where they’re at. I’ve called everyday..sometimes they answer, sometimes they like to keep me on hold for an hour and then hang up. This is honestly so frustrating. San Bernardino Social Security, do better.

After your initial application, it can take anywhere from 3-6 months for your initial determination. Always remember that if you ever get a denial you have the right to appeal the decision. See your letter for the forms and time frames for submitting your appeal.
Go into the office
If you receive SS benefits, all you need to do is notify your local office of your new account. All you need to do is open an account at any financial institution of your choice and report the Routing number and Account number to the SSA. You can also go online and create an account. There you can do most things like change your address and update your direct deposit. If you cant open an account for any reason, SSA offers a Debit Card program called Direct Express. It's free and easy. Visit www.ssa.gov for more info
If you are asking if you can drop off paperwork yes. But It has to be in an envelope with the name of the person social security number and address on the envelope and a security guard will open the door for you to drop it in. But it has to be sealed
I believe so. But due to Covid, they may allow you to do it over the phone or through mailed paperwork. I'd call them and see first.
@Robyn Evans go on sis website and download the application to your phone, that it to like Walgreens and have them printout the application, fill out mail in with your identification card, they will mail you back your identification card along with your social security card. Took me 4 days to get mines. Hope this helps "toodlez"

Hi Miriam, if you recently had a Residence or Work Permit and changed your status ... it is very important that you go to Social Security and change your status. Especially if she became a Citizen. The office opens at 9 am .. but the Social Security Cards are done very quickly so you will not expect much. Greetings and have a good day.
When I went it seemed to be impossible to make an appointment so I went without one. They had two separate lines there, one for appointments and one for walk ins, and they were completely ignoring the appointment idea. No one had an appointment. They sent half the people to the appointment line (even though no one had an appointment) and half to the other line and got to us all at the same speed.
Try calling the Social Security Administration phone number General number in appointment otherwise I have never been able to make an appointment really there I've always had to wait in line and very long. But as soon as they open the doors they will ask is anybody here just for an ID or social security card just say yes and getting that line and you'll be in the very first group and then when you get to the window whatever you need that's the quickest way in and out of there and you didn't hear that from me:)
You should contact them ASAP. It should never take that long. Have them verify your contact information, such as your phone number and address

Hello Liz, all you need is a valid form of ID. Government Issued or a Passport. If you dont have one there are other forms of ID that can be used. Just verify with the worker. You can also replace your Social Security Card online at www.ssa.gov All you need is a valid form of ID. Preferably a State ID or CA drivers license.
Yes you may.
Hello Juan.. there currently is no charge for a replacement SS card. You can also go online and replace it at www.ssa.gov All you need is a valid form of ID.
When I went you didn't need an appointment. They didn't even ask if you had one. He just put me in the appointment line and said ignore that. The line is much shorter if you are there to get your name changed on your social security card.
No only social worker appointed.
I am terribly sorry for your loss. Unfortunately that is the rule. In order for you to get Survivors/Widows Benefits , you must have been married at least 10 years, and be age 60 for Widows benefits. You may also qualify as a disabled Widow if you are found to be medically disabled by SSA. Lastly, you also may be eligible if you have a minor child of the deceased in your care. If you do, then you and your child get the benefits. If you have a minor child, the child gets survivors benefits until age 18 or High school graduation. I would encourage you to take a look at www.ssa.gov and type in the search Widows or survivors for more information.
Visit www.ssa.gov Or visit your local SSA office.
There may be a good chance that the bank could possibly still receive the direct deposit, however if the account is fully closed then the check will be returned back to Social Security. Once the SSA has your check returned from the bank, then and only then you can retrieve it from the office. If you go to the office, make sure to have your ID and preferably a new direct deposit/bank info. The SSA office will be able to give you your money but only once the office confirms that your check has been returned from the bank. Remember to visit www.ssa.gov if you have any other questions about direct deposit.
Hello. In order to get a card, you need an ID for yourself and some ID for your child. You can use the MediCal card oh if you are in school, a stamped and certified school transcript. You can visit the office for more information or visit the website www.ssa.gov
Assuming custody is not an issue, SS requires a form of ID for your kids. Of you dont have a DMV issued ID or a Passport for them there are other items you can use. -Health Insurance card showing the Date of Birth and an issue date - MediCal card - School profile printout (Must be sealed/certified like a transcript) -School ID card however, child must be present. Visit www.ssa.gov for more info
At age 62 is the earliest that you can take your Retirement benefit. It would be at a reduced rate. Depending on your date of birth, most people's full Retirement age is at 66. At any point between 62 and over, you can get Retirement benefits assuming you worked at least 10 years. At age 65 is Medicare (Federal Health Insurance). If you are already receiving benefits from Social Security, you will be automatically enrolled. If not, then you have an option to sign up for Medicare in one of the enrollment periods. For more info visit: www.SSA.gov www.Medicare.gov
It depends. If you are applying for Disability benefits, After applying it takes 3-6 months for a decision. If you are denied, you have appeal rights, make sure to appeal within 60 days. If you are applying for Retirement benefits, it takes about a month. Visit www.ssa.gov for more info.
To Esther Vazquez no you will have to go into the office to do that.

Hi Monique. I'm very sorry to hear that your cards were lost. If you go to the SS office, you will be required to show a valid ID. It must be the original. So if you dont have one, I would reccomend you get your ID replaced first. Another alternative form of ID the office accepts is a recent Medi-Cal card. Check with your local office if there are any alternatives. As for children goes: any child who needs a replacement SS card needs to present a valid form of ID. Most common are Medi-Cal cards and/or a school profile certified by the school. If you dont have anything.. your best bet is to get a replacement Medi-Cal cards for you and your family, they usually give a temp card. The office can take that too. Hope this helps. Be sure to visit www.ssa.gov for more info on replacement SS cards.
If you want to apply for Social Security benefits you can go to the SSA website at www.ssa.gov
Yes you can make an appointment its better that way sometimes
Hi Adriana .. quotes are for initial applications only. If you already have benefits you will have to call or visit the office. The best day is Wednesday before 12 noon.
You can always get one on line at www.ssa.gov or you can call the SSA and they will mail you one. Last option is visit your local office and they can print you one there.
If you are on benefits it will be mandatory to have a Direct Deposit. You can open an account at any bank or the Social Security office will assign a debit card for you if needed. Just call or go to the office and request it.
When you get to AZ , just check in at your local SSA office to where you live and update all of your info including your address. The office will take care of the transfer. If you are already on benefits, you just do a address change.
Don't call the office you'll be online for ever go online visit the Social Security office in person.
Unfortunately you may have to visit the office to pick up a check. First the Representatives need to investigate as to why. Normally they dont hand out a check unless it has been returned to Social Security. You can always call the office first and if absolutely necessary then go in. Sometimes they can probably just pay what ever is due straight to your bank account. If you do go to the office, be sure to have an ID and if it is dire need they will need proofs.
Hi Jessica , Just your Application and your Original Marriage cert will be fine. Be advised that it may take some time to get back your Marriage Certificate back because it is thru the mail, but the SS office will mail it back certified mail.
No you can't.
Right away. They ask you when you want to start.
I can't read Spanish. Could you please send me English Writing words? I'm a Citizen of the United States of America
She can't just "put him on SSI" there are strict guidelines and he has to qualify. Even if you have custody I doubt they would give you any specific information because of HIPA.
Hello Sherry, I encourage you to contact SSA at anytime. They will be able to help you with any questions. Sometimes you may qualify for work programs and they may just need to inform you. WWW.SSA.GOV
