Cow Canyon Rest Area

This rest area is in a particularly nice place in Eastern Oregon's high desert. Just a few miles from Madras and at the junction of highways 97 and 197. Restrooms were clean and there was plenty of parking. The only challenge was finding a picnic table in the shade. There were some beautiful native desert flowers in bloom including some Mariposas.

Family friendly place to stop!! Clean, picnic tables, some shade and just a cool spot for rest.

NOT a good place to sleep if you looking for a place to spend the night in a POV. As far as just a place to stop and take a break, great, 5 stars, but I was looking for a place to spend the night and this was just about the worst rest stopI've been to for that. As the pictures show, the truckers parking lot was full and they used the car parking area. That's not the big deal, the big deal was that truckers kept pulling in through here all night looking for a place to stop and there were none, so they'd pull on through going right through the car parking area, and yes, I had ear plugs in and windows blacked out. The Hwy is only about 50yards from the car parking area as well so you had hwy traffic noise as well, with occasional Jake break noise. Do yourself a favor, look for another place to sleep. Stayed here on a Monday night.
