The location was hard to find in a big park with no reception. We bumped into another family and they were also lost. By the time we arrived (about 20 minutes late), the staff were able to take us in, which we appreciate. I was surprise to see how young the “trainers” were because they look like teenage girls. They did not show my 7 years old the basic of horseback riding and basically only let her sit on the slow moving horse. From time to time, one of the teens would tell my daughter to kick her legs to get the horse to move, and the horse didn’t really want to move. I felt bad for both the horse and my daughter. I’ve taken my daughter to horseback riding before, but this one by far provided the least effort and poor service to both the horse and the rider. It felt as though these “trainers” did not care at all about their job, which is disappointing. I hope these horses are treated. We won’t be coming back here.

This was a great ride. The scenery was fantastic. A red tail hawk circled in the sky and on the way back we saw a wild Turkey. I’m not an expert rider but have ridden every chance I get. Owen gently corrected any errors I made holding the reins without making me feel small. Time was taken instructing those who had never ridden before. My reflexes weren’t what they should have been during a small incident but Owen noticed the reins were too long and had me slide my hand down on them. He also complimented me and ensured I was alright (not scared). He took time to compliment the other riders also. That builds their confidence. He pointed things out along the way and made sure to instruct all of us when crossing the road. I will come here again and I will make sure I try their Woodside location this summer.

I won't go there again. They had one trainer for six beginners in a rather small arena. One saddle shifted, and the rider fell. Horse got spooked and they had no protocol on what to do. I experienced the scariest moments of my life as the poor animal ran around scared, uncontrollably. At Chaparrel, they shouldn't have more than 3 students in that small arena at a time, they should add more trainers, and have the right protocol in place when things go wrong. It was great luck that nobody was hurt or killed on that day

Hi Jose- Long pants and closed toed shoes must be worn. Thank you for your inquiry.
You must wear long pants just because there is something called leather burn. They now have 2 locations, one at Ed Levin Park in Milpitas, and one at Wunderlich in San Jose. You have to request beforehand the horse you want by name but you would have to know the names of the horse or you might have to describe the horse you want, like a fast or slow horse.
