The building is lovely, and so was breakfast. However, I was shifted to a smaller room with a smaller bed with little notice due to their mistake overbooking. I was told that my stay was comp'd, but months later I received a bill regardless. Went from amazing service to a big disappointment, from 5 stars to 2.

My husband and I decided to take a trip in the summer of 2020 to Edenton, NC to see this quaint town. Reading the excellent reviews, we decided to stay at the Cotton Gin Inn. Upon arriving, we were extremely impressed with the grounds. However, we were greeted with a lack luster greeting like we were almost intruding in someone’s personal home. We shook that off thinking it was just a weird reaction. So we were brought to our room, which was stunning and well kept and we got excited again. As we were unpacking, we realized the bathroom only had a tub (in one of their most expensive rooms). This was an absolute disaster! The owners had their list of rules and regulations so of course while taking a bath we feared we would get a wall wet or the floor and would get reprimanded. I myself had surgery on my legs and it was impossible to get in and out of this thing without my husbands help. Tub aside, there was a constant feeling like we were teenagers at our parents house and literally had to tip toe around to not upset them. We were told of the “curfew” and all the rules and regulations with food in rooms, drinks etc. My husband and I tried to enjoy wine outside on the porch and the owner started shutting off lights in the rooms hinting towards curfew time. We had to ask them to leave the door unlocked for us or give us the code so we could stay out after 10pm. You would have sworn I asked for a million dollars. Finally, we missed breakfast one morning (our fault not knowing the etiquette) but were called asking where we were and that she is more or less an acclaimed chef and her food is what people come for. I apologized and then had to return to this home feeling all awkward that we would get in trouble again. We actually delayed getting on the road the next day so we didn’t miss the breakfast and get in trouble! It was a fabulous meal but in a super quiet, awkward setting with 4 other guests. Sorry to say, I came for a relaxing vacation and I didn’t get that at all! There is extreme potential here for an amazing B&B but first the owners need to make it feel like a second home for people and worry less about people staining a linen that can be washed, or setting a curfew. Sorry to say this was anything but relaxing while I was on the grounds here.

I am pretty sure this is the best bed and breakfast inn we have ever used. The beds and linens are top notch. The home and furnishings are lovely and clean. And the breakfast? Absolutely awesome. Owner and chef, Cheryl, made amazing breakfasts from locally sourced products. Looking forward to staying there again!

My husband and I hosted our wedding at this venue. From the inn for our stay, to the grounds and food… everything was perfect. Cheryl and Randy are extremely accommodating and kind. We recommend this place for anyone looking to host an event or a getaway stay. The rooms are cozy and private. The grounds are beautiful with flowers and trees. The location is amazing, located near the historic district. So many good things to say about this place!
