Taking the Seaplane from Alameda to San Francisco is probably in my top 5 things to do in the Bay Area. This fast, comfortable ride that goes by the Port of Oakland’s container ships is so fascinating to see the world’s commerce at work! The ferry ride is comfortable, the staff friendly and efficient. On a weekday morning there was lots of free parking available at the ferry terminal. This Seaplane commute from Alameda to San Francisco is yet another great reason to live in Alameda. I try to take this ferry ride as often as possible - a cheap vacation!

Excellent facility with a covered waiting area and a restroom. The fare to Oakland is $1.70 and is a great way to finish a bike ride in Alameda without braving the tunnel or going back to the Park St. bridge. Be aware the ferry isn't always able to stay on schedule, especially on warm and sunny weekends when ridership increases.

My first time on the ferry, it was excellent!!!!! Very easy to purchase tickets and there is a designated parking area for ferry riders. Exceptionally clean, with very comfortable seating areas. The ferry has great upper deck area if you want a more scenic ride. There is also a bit for drinks and snacks.... definitely the way to commute....hands down!!!!!!

Can I bring my dog? Same question as the last person?!
Ferry. The name is a historical reference.
I'm not sure ...under $20
It depends what your walking distance is. Other than strolling along the waterfront, facing the Port of Oakland (which is interesting), the nearest food/activity is Almanac Brewery and Admiral Maltings, about a mile away. That is through the decommissioned Naval base, which is also fun but not very well lit after dark. Spirits Alley (lots more alcohol-related stuff) is about 1.5 miles, as is the USS Hornet. The other direction (East-ish) is a shopping center with Target and various chain options, about 1 mile.
Hi Alex - Check the website or call them for the most accurate information. Enjoy the show!
Yes, and there are specific areas for bikes. It will be obvious. The ferry is a great way to return to Oakland instead of riding back to the Park St. Bridge. I strongly suggest NOT to ride through the tube.
Yes. It's a brief, inexpensive ride. Clipper Cards are the preferred payment method.
Ample free parking at the terminal.
Alameda - no contest!
Around 5:30-6:00am.
