Fifty Third Winery on set in a lovely area far from any main roads or businesses. A really nice feature is all the picnic tables set up to enjoy a glass of wine and the view of the vineyard. At this time they were serving flight tasting only. Out of the four wine flight, we both liked the Chardonel best.

Amazing hospitality from the staff at Fifty-Third. We live just a few minutes away, so this has become a weekly afternoon picnic spot. We always feel so welcome & our children just love playing in all of the green, open space on site. Live music on the weekends is a bonus. Quite a few wines to choose from, and although I haven’t tried them all, I’ve found 5-6 “favorites” that I gravitate towards.

Cooper/53rd winery is always a good time! Really good wine, something for everyone. Staff is always friendly and knowledgeable! Special call out to Domenic for today’s tasting; we made 4 new friends today because of his capability to handle multiple tastings. We love learning the history behind the wineries we visit, so we don’t enjoy ‘run-of-the-mill’ wineries so much. So whether you are new to the winery scene or an expert, you will have a good time and a great tasting!

As a big fan of Virginia wines, I say that Cooper has the best wines of any winery I have visited in VA. Every single wine on their tasting list was legitimately great with a few amazing ones! They are super dog and family friendly and it was a wonderful place to spend a beautiful day. I almost joined the wine club, but it is just a little too far for us to get there regularly, unfortunately. Cooper will be a planned stop anytime we are in central VA! Major props to the winemaker and owners!!

Holly, It is a port style, after dinner dessert wine made from Norton grapes, fermented to about 5% residual sugar and then fortified to 18 or 19% alcohol with brandy. Unfortunately, now only the Portuguese can use the name Port so we have had to improvise. The wine is mainly aged in used whiskey barrels, but also infused with vanilla beans. Hope this helps. Graham
