I love the gym at this YMCA here in Rome, New York. There are three large rooms of equipment! The cardio room has some awesome machines i have never seen before. Them there is a circuit training room with really nice weight machines. The third room has free weights, barbells, and additional weight machines. The people are friendly, and you can hire a personal trainer if you wish. I have not yet gone to the pool....but I have seen the class schedules, and hope to use the pool soon. One of my doctors recommends it highly. If you are fully vaccinated, at this point they do not require masks. There is a special rate for senior citizens, and it is very affordable. The YMCA in Rome NY is a wonderful place!

I am very disappointed at this Y. I have a lot of experience working at Y’s from NC and the overall motto of the Y is that everyone is welcome and everyone is “supposed” to be treated with a smile and with respect. I had a very unfortunate phone call experience regarding admitting my grandchildren for swim lessons. I tried to sign up but got sidelined with, “they will need to be assessed before they can be placed in a class” in which she refused to tell me how many slots were available to make sure it was worth my time going in the facility in the first place with a toddler, a kindergartner and a 7 year old. I then called up the Oneida Y, I asked about the swim lessons and she was able to offer up this information immediately. I was going to sign up 3 children at this Y, as we live in Rome. Trying to shop local. But too bad for you because I signed up with Oneida instead. Not to mention they are 20 miles away, it will be worth the trip each time. And bonus, they are much more modern and a very family friendly Y, at Oneida. I’m saddened to even have had the experience of the Rome Y and wish it were different and hope senior admin can evaluate this situation as a teachable moment for all. You never know who’s watching and it’s always best to show your best side and get the ultimate result: local monies and community. During this year’s annual giving campaign, maybe strive for newer equipment, and customer service training classes for your staff going forward. If you say you are here for the members and the “community “, act like it.

Clean facility with no funky smell that so many other places have. Child care services is great. Only drawback is the infared sauna is out of order a lot.
Catch 22
Great for the community. This facility has a pool weight and excersise rooms and various other things to do inside. Membership required but reasonably priced and well worth it. Located within just a few blocks of Jervis public library.
