Poke Sushi

Friendly, attentive service. Sushi was good (we had California rolls, tuna rolls, dragon rolls) and well-portioned. My daughter wanted the pineapple drinks and they were delicious and refreshing (though not unique to Poke as they are the standard novelty drink on the broadwalk, they were better here than some spots I've visited). While the cost is definitely creeping into the tourist-y price range, Poke had a better cost/quality ratio than a lot of places in the blocks north of here.

Growing up with authentic sushi, I must say I'm disappointed. We ordered the spider, volcano, and steak & lobster tower. The common problem is the rice. The rice needs to be moist, not dry. The spider's crab portion was very small compare to the bad rice, so you can barely taste it. The other ingredients did not do the roll any favors. The volcano roll: I'm used to the California rolls with spicy mayonnaise sauce with either scallops or crayfish. This is a different take on the roll, but it lacks a bit of flavors. Rather than just dumping proteins on the roll and enlarging it with rice, the recipe should be reviewed to make sure all the flavors meld well together. The tower: the tower was refreshing. The alfalfa sprouts with cucumbers and peas gives the tower a very refreshing taste. I felt like I was in an episode of Food Wars for a second. However, the rice turns what was awesome into a mediocre tower. Additionally the steak was dry and cold. It would be better to cook the steak right before putting it into the tower.
