Laguna Plein Air Painters Association is a community of artists dedicated to painting our natural environment, from life and in the studio. The organization is made up of nearly 400 artists, dedicated to appreciating our surroundings, preserving our history, and educating emerging artists. There are a variety of ways members may participate, in paint-outs, juried shows, seeing demonstrations by professionals, and inter-acting together. LPAPA, along with the Festival of Arts, Pageant of the Masters and Laguna Playhouse is one of the key art organizations in Laguna Beach, and has a membership that spans the nation, as well as having members across the globe.

Membership is for a 12-month period beginning with your join date and renewing on your anniversary date; you can join any time and enjoy a full 12 months of membership benefits.

Do you reject impressionistic styles of art in Juried contests. I do not want to pay money to join and then be rejected. Thanks.

We appreciate impressionism, individual styles and expressions. LPAPA's juried shows have 3 jurors who jury each painting image based on the submitted image without the artist's name nor price. Each juror gives the image a score of 1-5, with 5 being the highest score per juror and 15 being the highest overall score per painting. The jurors change for each show, as well as the awards judge (who is not one of the jurors). The scoring is based on the painting's representation of the show theme and prospectus rules, the composition, execution, and overall visual appeal; the 3 jurors' scores are combined for a total score between 3-15 if the painting is not disqualified for not following the prospectus. The quality of the image can affect the score. Most often paintings with a score of 13-15 are hung at the gallery as awards finalists; on occasion paintings with scores of 12 will also be hung depending on the size of the show. Members receive a $5 LPAPA Rewards Credit per show entered.
