A Clarified Woman
It's wonderful to have any kind of outdoor cultural center available. This one has been open for many years. We went tonight to experience a skilled group of Japanese drummers/performers. The had a great history and sounded wonderful. Their opening song sounded like bluegrass played on Asian drums. The gardens are not large, and they aren't truly a Japanese garden in the sense that most of the trees and plants aren't reflective of those native plants. But it was a nice, tranquil place. Limited parking, good bathrooms.

Highly recommend! For adults it’s $10, students and under 17 is $7. If you want to know what stuff is, you scan a website to get more knowledge on things around the park. If you’re walking around without the guide, then you could finish the park in 20 minutes at a very slow pace. They have restrooms on site with water fountains. It is in a very open spot and shade is through out the park. You MUST stay on the pathways as they’ve been sponsored by their sister city in Japan. There are places to sit as well.

This was a wonderful outing on a weekend morning, very cute garden with plenty of koi and plenty of ducks to admire; of course the main draw is that the garden is Japanese themed. Admission was $10 per person with student and senior discounts available. One could speed through this in 10 - 15 minutes if they want, but you won't want to do that once you see the love and charm put in to this place. We spent about an hour and a half here and felt that was comfortable. There was also a cute store at the exit with fun Japanese snacks and souvenirs.

The best and most relaxing experience I've ever had. The most beautiful views. Places to sit and take in the view. Coy fish, ducks, waterfalls, streams and a mini pond. So much greenery my eyes don't know where to look first. This was my 3rd experience here. And I'll go back many more times!

Beginning in October. Adults pay $7, Children (6 & under) are free. Seniors are $6. Students and military (w/ ID) $5.
It's free on the first Friday of most months, after 4PM, after 5 PM in June, not free in October, closed July - September. See the website for more details.
If you have kids, make sure to buy the fish food for 1.00 and watch the koi come alive!! Great place
Covid friendly? Ummm so many questions.... ☺😉 Masks are required. Social distancing is requested. You can buy tickets online.
Closer to April. But you can't physically grow Sakura out here in AZ. Wrong soil nutrients, summer heat frys them, & they're not great in indoor/greenhouse trees,(Also Japanese would see that as extremely unauthentic), so the Japanese Friendship Garden doesn't have Cherry Blossoms. (Last I checked anyways)
What everyone isn't telling you about the free parking on site is that it's tiny & get packed easily on special event days. Swing by Margaret T. Hance park just east of the garden if this happens. Otherwise the surronding neighborhood is used to JFG traffic ;)!
It would probably be Arizona's harsh Summers that could probably do damage to plants and tree's . In Japan it snows real good. I've seen pictures and talk to friends from Japan but I've never been to Japan but I believe they're harsh climates. Are pretty tough to plants and tree's The truth is I don't think Arizona is cold could do that much damage to the trees and plants. Usually trees and plants adapt to the weather's climate.
