VERY HAPPY with my order of Guinea keets!! I was nervous since this was my first time ordering birds through the mail. They had to go from PA to Upper MI. Only one keet perished during shipment, and one shortly after I got them home. They seem very healthy and strong. I would definitely order from Freedom Ranger Hatchery again!

My wife and I decided to purchase some Freedom Ranger day old chicks to raise for meat, feathers, etc... This is the first time we ever purchased birds online, which a lot of the old timers call "mail order". We did our research and learned a lot about the history of mail order chicks. Who knew! This has been a thing since 1918 and a banker that went broke during the Great Depression really hammered this into existence, so I'm told. The business hasn't changed much since then. Unless you count the phony front organizations that continue to lobby to do away with postal delivery of day old chicks. All of which, when thoroughly researched, seems to go back to the big bird raisers who want to do away with peoples' independence. Political, greedy big companies, and history aside I wanted to share the fantastic experience we had with Freedom Ranger Hatchery. It wasn't all roses and puppy dog tails to start with, but in the end, they did us right! We ordered a shipment of 50 Non-GMO Freedom Rangers from a late February batch. We received the USPS shipping/tracking number a couple of days in advance. On hatching day the tracking number quickly ran from pickup, to distribution center. Then it stalled. ...and stalled, ...and stalled. After 3 days I had to drive up to our local post office to see if the chicks had arrived. They had not. On the 5th day I emailed and called Freedom Ranger Hatchery to ask them what the process is to see about getting another order. At this point it was obvious the chicks wouldn't be alive when or if they arrived. Unfortunately, the US Postal Service used to be delivered rain, shine, sleet, or snow. These days, it seems more like the USPS is made of a bunch of entitled self-righteous bureaucrats who just need an excuse to not do their job. Except for the rural carriers and workers I know personally. There I do again, politics. I digress... After contacting Freedom Ranger Hatchery I started to get emails. First was a zero dollar invoice for another batch of chicks, then a new shipping number. Then the phone rang. A man called and said he wanted to know what he could do. I was pleased to tell him that it was apparently already handled. The people on the backend had already set up a new shipment. It wasn't an hour later the local post office called to say our original chicks had arrived. She was quite shook up. I went up and retrieved the box of dead baby chicks and tried to make her feel better, explaining that the mortality rate of baby chick is higher in nature than it is in our domesticated systems. These things happen, but in reality someone inside USPS mishandled them along the way. Today, we got a call from the same lady at the post office. I could hear the chicks in the background and nearly feel the smile on her face over the phone. My wonderful wife went and retrieved them from the post office and they went from there straight into our brooder box that was waiting. We only lost one in transport which is excellent considering I plan for a 20% loss rate when I hatch chicks myself. They are in the brooder, eating drinking, chirping, and having a good time. Those birds will have an excellent life and only have one bad day here. That'll be a good day for my family. The bottom line is this. Freedom Ranger Hatchery was under no obligation to replace those chicks we lost. There is an implied and shared risk when you decide to use the USPS to transport your baby birds. Those cute little things are near bullet proof, BUT they can only live for 3 days on the yolk they absorb just before they hatch. It's a risk you know your taking. I'll be doing business with Freedom Ranger for along time to come. Thank You Freedom Ranger Hatchery! -Thomas Dillingham

Just got my second order of a 100 chicks this past Friday. Super strong and healthy. Didn't loose a one during shipping and haven't lost any at this point. If your looking for a hatchery that has strong healthy chicks than freedom ranger hatchery is the one to buy them from. I have already placed a third order.

Excellent results with the Freedom Ranger broilers. The first 200 are off to the processor with an average live weight of 8.25 lbs at 11 weeks. We never expected that size. Since we raise our birds on pasture we needed a hearty bird for the winter conditions and we were not disappointed. We have another 400 currently on pasture and they are growing at the same pace and aren't bothered by the elements. These might just replace our Cornish cross for year round production!
