Very thorough application process, they communicated speedily and we were approved! After chatting with the foster and deciding to adopt, they were super quick to get the dog on transport to the northeast and we were meeting him a week later! Definitely recommend this rescue for your next furry friend.

I've had both positive and negative experiences with Forever Home, and because of this, have very mixed feelings about the organization (that's why I deducted a star). A disclaimer, though, if this shelter will adopt to you, please work with them! Animals come first, and this review is mainly to give them feedback in areas that they could improve upon. This is strictly my account of a personal experience. Positive first -- we adopted our Shepherd-Rotweiller mix from them about ten years ago, and he was the absolute love of our lives. He was truly the best dog and best thing that could have ever happened to us, and for that, we are grateful to Forever Home Rescue. I would also like to add that in dealing with them, I have dealt with some of the rudest, most egocentric people I have ever met in my life. I truly believe that shelters should prioritize finding loving, safe homes for their animals, but instead, I think a lot of it is about ego and trying to degrade and shame others -- it's very strange. I think they've mixed up their missions. Like I said, we adopted our dog, Shep, from this organization ten years ago. I went back a year later after bringing him home and was interested in adopting another dog. I was accused of lying, to the point of bringing me to tears, of having adopted a dog from the organization and therefore I was not allowed to adopt another. I was degraded and humiliated in front of other people. A few days later, I received a phone call from a woman meekly apologizing to me and telling me she had found record of my dog that I had adopted and asked if I was still interested in adopting. I wasn't, mostly because I had found another shelter to adopt to me (the first one I applied to after Forever Home -- funny, isn't it?), but also because I wasn't interested in an organization that treated people this way. Even if I had not adopted a dog from you before, why would it matter? Shouldn't you be more concerned with finding animals loving, wonderful forever homes -- like in your namesake? I'm writing this review today because I, again, wanted to adopt another dog after losing two of mine over this last year. Another shelter called my vet and told me that I got an absolutely "glowing" recommendation, and in addition, perfect personal recommendations -- but it's not good enough for this shelter. It's really a shame that they do this and keep dogs from finding forever homes, and in turn, have less space to help other dogs in need. Would probably not recommend unless you fit their "standards" that determine how much respect they will give you. It's really very disappointing that they treat people this way. I can't remember the woman's name who publicly (and wrongly) humiliated me, but if it helps, I believe that she might have been a veterinarian and someone who had a main hand in running the shelter. It's also worth noting that she wasn't even the one who called back to apologize -- it was someone else. Very embarrassing. It was like dealing with a child who was having a temper tantrum. Really looking forward to adopting my next forever dog from a shelter who prioritizes their animals and also is respectful to human beings :)

They helped us get our new pup who came up from Arkansas. Friendly staff. Would use them again when it comes time to add another pup to our family.

We adopted our now 2 yr old Australiann Cattle Dog pup here in 2018 and we're now looking to adopt a 2nd rescue dog from them! They're professional, affordable, rescue dogs from the south, quick to respond, etc. They truly love their dogs and diligently check out each potential adopted prior to approval. I highly recommend adopting with them! Thank you for our furever pup!!

If you click on available dogs on their website you will see if there are puppies currently available. Your best bet is to submit an app and have it approved so you don't miss the one you want as pups move quickly.

And I’d like to know if this is a NO KILL Shelter?

Sean Doherty | Aug 23, 2021
Al Gervais | Aug 23, 2021

This rescue is strictly NO KILL. The pets are only for adoption

If you know of a dog in a kill shelter that needs rescue because his time is up. How do you go about getting a rescue interested

Nancy Demaio | Aug 24, 2019
Joanne Wilkinson | Aug 24, 2019

Most rescues work with trusted contacts and don't accept dogs that they cannot have their contacts check out. If the dog is in a place that is not already connected with rescue groups, it would be difficult to find a rescue to take the dog sight unseen. Dogs have to be fostered for awhile outside of a shelter environment also, to make sure they are suitable for adoption.

Hi if you log on to the webpage it should tell you what dogs are here already current of foster care and dogs that are listed a dogs that are being pulled to up every Saturday the best way to get a job that you are interested in is to fill out a pre-approved adoption application this gives you first dibs on a dog that you'd like to meet and greet when they are brought up here from Tennessee if you have other pets in the house one of the best things to also do is to bring that pet with you and meet and greet on neutral ground to make sure that they get along before you bring them home with you and please remember that these dogs and all dogs that come out of rescue need a couple weeks to decompress summer puppies and never have been in households can summer just puppies that need to be potty trained thank you for wanting to rescue you will never regret they will love you more than you could have ever love anything or any one

Do yorkies ever come up for adoption?

Mary Dame | Aug 24, 2018
Audra Lacey | Aug 24, 2018

Absolutely the best thing to do is to go to the website you can fill out a pre-adoption doesn't mean you have to adopt it just allows you to be pre-approved so if you see a yorky that's going to come up on the transport you can go ahead and let them know that you're interested and put your application in right away and you get a better chance of getting that dog you're always welcome to go up and meet and greet at open house but having an application in and being pre-approved just gives you a better chance thank you for asking more importantly thank you for wanting to rescue
