Reason why I did not like it: . No cell service or Wi-Fi . No shower or even electricity in bunks or restrooms . The waterfall isn’t even cool . People were snoring all night . Bunks we’re extremely uncomfortable

Fantastic. 6 mi into the wilderness on foot, snowshoes, or skis, on February 22 and 23, and this place was booked solid with 36 people on Friday and Saturday nights. Reservations are absolutely required, even in winter. Water is available from a closed well and treating it is not required. In winter you must pack in all of your food, and pack out all of your trash. Other times of the year meals are prepared for you as part of the price of a reservation although I didn't get to experience that. Awesome winter long weekend.

Amazing Location...waterfalls to explore right in front of the hut with the sound of rushing water while meditating on the front porch! Beautiful clean hut, great attending crew & we had a variety of hikers there from around the world! The last part of the trail is steep for novice hikers but slow & sure will get you there!!

The hut was great! Very family friendly good for young and old. There are snakes you can catch and a very nice waterfall. The hike is 2.8 miles and has amazing scenery. There is no electricity, there is running water but it isn't safe to drink so don't drink it! Bring water bottles if you want to drink or brush your teeth. The only problem I had was they wake you up super early ~6:00 am and have you go to bed at ~9:30 PM, as a night owl it is different. There is no cell service too. Put your phones and other electronics in a plastic bag because there are multiple places they could fall into a river while hiking. I saw two people fall into the rivers on the trails. I have many allergies and they are great with allergies. For dinner they had turkey and mashed potatoes, which I could eat and was very good. Since I am allergic to eggs I brought bagels that I could have for breakfast and they were very nice and cooked the bagel and gave me cream cheese.

I do not believe so. There is a specific area (tent of a mile?) before and after the hut which prohibits free/stealth camping of any kind.
It's $5/day. If you frequently hike in the White Mountains, consider an annual recreation pass for $30. You can pick one up at one of the ranger stations or visitors centers.
Yes, you need to hike the 2 mile road in
It is very close. If I remember correctly, there is a small trail that takes you directly from the hut to the AT. It was about a mile, and mostly uphill from the hut. I agree that the vertical height is about the same as the horizontal distance. So it really ends up not being far at all
