I love going here because you never know what you will see. My first time ever seeing some of these animals. You definitely will want a good camera. It's a nice drive or walk the trails if you wish. Check out the watch tower or photo op blind. There's also carp earlier in the year and eagles always flying around here. Can even see turtles on warm sunny days. I've uploaded some pics I have taken here. Hope you all enjoy.

We took a day trip out to the Wildlife Refuge. Despite the fact that it was bitterly Cold and spitting snow in April, we had a great time . The two staff inside the visitor center were very helpful. There are several areas away from the main drive where you can see an even bigger variety of animals. I definitely want to go again .. but sometime when it’s warmer

Whenever we're in that area we always take a slow drive through Montezuma. You never know what you'll see. On this last drive we saw lots of egrets. There was one small pond just off the dirt road that had about twenty of them and one blue heron hanging out. It was absolutely beautiful to see and worth the drive. UPDATE: The last three photos are of another drive through that we took a couple months later. There's one of our shots of a couple eagles hanging out in a tree and a couple of our shots of at least a couple hundred migrating geese that were hanging out in a different area.

The Visitor’s Center is informative, and the staff is friendly and helpful. The walking trail was short and not that spectacular. The driving trail was pleasant; we liked the pull-off areas where we could get out of our car and look around. The day that we visited we enjoyed the wildflowers and scenery but didn’t see many birds. It was a little disappointing, since we’ve visited other refuges with an abundance of wildlife.

Yes, where I was fishing is near the boat launch and there is a large grassy area. No grills ,there is a Porta potty.
Yes there are some dog friendly trails. For the drive there was no problem with the dog in the car. From their website: Dog-walking is allowed around the refuge headquarters and visitor center areas, as well as on the Seneca Trail. Dog-walking is prohibited along the Esker Brook and South Spring Pool Trails. Pets must be kept on the leash and under their owner’s control at all times. If you have dog in your vehicle while you are on the Wildlife Drive, your dog must remain in the vehicle.
