The employees at FreeState Gun Range are knowledgeable, friendly, professional, and patient. I've enjoyed their trainings and experimenting with different firearms. I like the facility as well as the vast inventory. I'm looking forward to coming more often and bringing my friends. The classes are great! Thanks Nigel, Josh, and Mike!

Our instructor Stephanie was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. I am new to firearms and this class was perfect for me. I enjoyed all the details about the different types of firearms and how to correctly handle, fire and safety store them. Would recommend

Previous customer. Their fb page encourages hardening schools. Not a good look. Also, their wait to use the range is insane. Look elsewhere if you want to go to a range that encourages responsible gun ownership and not one that takes political stances on assault rifles right after a shooting was committed in Texas. Using an AR-15.

I’ve taken a couple off courses with these guys. Always informative and always professional. In fact I just had another class last night. I learned so much. The instructor’s do an amazing job at making everyone feel comfortable yet confident. I feel so empowered after I began training here. I would highly recommend.

No.
To purchase a handgun in Maryland you will need to get an "HQL" (Handgun Qualification License). FreeState Gun Range AND OTHER PLACES, offer the short 4 hour classroom course so that you can get your HQL. The course will also include, as I understand it, a short amount of time FIRING a handgun. Once you have your HQL (like a license for a car except for a gun) you can purchase a handgun. But, just like ANYWHERE ELSE (Some gun store, gun show, or FreeState Gun Range) YOU WILL NEED TO GET A QUICK BACKGROUND CHECK. (All these places will just use you Drivers License & run the background check to make sure you are NOT A FELON, or you DO NOT HAVE A RESTRAINING ORDER for threatening someone, etc). So for most normal people, just schedule time to take their class, get your HQL, then pick out & pay for your gun. Use respect & pay attention to the lessons they are teaching (e.g., "NEVER point at anything or put finger on trigger unless you intend to destroy the target"
No, but they will assist you if needed.
Youtube stuff like "firearm safety" and "muzzle discipline" etc before you go. Once their ask questions. See their website on classes, range time, and rental (if you've never shot they may start you on .22 caliber). Ammunition cost depends on how much 22 ammo you want.
Only if you have never purchased a gun before October 2013, I had a gun in 2009 and I didn’t need a HQL
The store is currently open during regular business hours without an appointment, so you can stop in and purchase a handgun. The range is currently open, but you must register for an appointment in advance. Please visit freestategunrange.com for more information.
No. You sign up to see if you can participate on the tablet as you enter.
When i went there they offered both. I took my son. They gave it with the range time and the pistol and ammunition.
5.56, .300, and 7.65 are good. .308, 30-06 etc are Thursday evening only.
Call, but I would be shocked if they did based on the amount of powder and smoke it would make indoors.
They have a good amount available to rent.
Yes, you can definitely bring your own guns.
In Maryland you need a valid Maryland ID and to pass a background check that the seller will do on site. It takes about 5 minutes.
No, the Wear and Carry course will also meet the requirements for the HQL course as well -- you can apply for both simultaneously.
I think it's pretty flexible, but I recommend calling and potentially making an appointment before going in.
You'll have to have a Maryland concealed carry to carry in Maryland of course. but you can definitely bring you own guns and ammo. They do not allow steel case ammo and shotguns must run slugs. The also have a wonderful selection of rentals
They "recommend the kid be over 11 or 12" from what I was told years ago. So I took him to Elk Neck. Easier to hear there anyway to teach.
Check their website, may be listed there. If I remember correctly, finger printing was $60 when I got mine done there.
I am a business owner. I have taken carry conceal 16 hours class and passed. I couldn't navigate state police web site for carry conceal. I would take class over as long as I have help to get permit.
No. You will need valid I.D.. There is a list of rules and regulations on their website you can read through before you go.
Call. They have a gun smith but not sure if it's just accessory installs and upgrades or actual repairs.
You need to contact the state police on laws on regards to this. I could answer (because I'm an internet lawyer like everyone else) but we shouldn't. Call the state firearms division. You are trying to follow the law. They will appreciate you not trying to get in trouble. People would be surprised how helpful others are when trying to do the write thing.

Rifle purchases require a course completion just as handguns do. Fingerprinting, MD state police application, and background check are standard protocol. Or you may save the fees and get trained, permitted, and certified with the DOD when you join the corps.
Yes
Handgun qualification license
Yes. Check MD firearm transportation laws. Dont get screwed because of how strict they are.
Be able to meet all requirements to pass background check, hand over your cash.
No, the range allows use of slugs only.
You should be able to. I don't think there is much restriction on handgun caliber as long as it's not steel core ammo. I believe they have a chart on their website showing acceptable calibers and ammunition.
Yes
Check their website but I believe the if you are 18 or older you can shoot alone
If you’re referring to a wear and carry permit, they do offer the refresher course to renew. For HQL’s, they only have to be renewed every 10 years and only if you wish to purchase another handgun.
I have seen kids supervised by parents I want to say like 10-13 years old but deff call to confirm
Yes
They teach all you need to know but good luck getting a carry permit in this state
Ik u can 308 on some nights
There guns there ammo
Have all necessary paperwork and hql
Looks like .308 is Thursday evenings only. Call to make sure
Kinda - there is an area with tables if they are able to occupy themselves. The employees aren't a daycare though.
They don't give it to you. You have to buy theirs or bring your own. No steel case. If you rent a pistol, they sell ammo by the 50 round box. $10-$15 per box.
Absolutely. There are different kinds also depending on your style.
No, you are exempt but will need to provide a copy of your pcs orders showing you stationed in Maryland and you need to complete an application to buy online.
165 dollars
Your total cost will be around $100. Your charges will depend on the caliber weapon you rent.
I know they do sell used firearms as well
20 for one hour, 9 for the next half hour.
They offer a class for beginners and teach basic firearms safety. They have many more classes in self defense and even teach children how to use firearms. Great place to buy a firearm.
Not sure but they asked if I needed any for the road.
They have a variety of firearms available for renting, plus ammo. But I'd call about ammo just to make sure.
No. And no steel casing either. The reason, if you're accidently hit by a full-metal jacketed (FMJ) round, it's likely to cause a single hole. But with a jacketed hollow point round, it will cause can cause a massive wound cavity and greater tissue damage. I only added this for those who may not have known, not that you didn't already know; no offense intended to anyone.
