Editing my previous 5 star review. Sadly. USI has a problem. That much is certain. It may be entrenched interests, inept management, or something in between. This place is quickly approaching bankruptcy and the contributing factors are nothing new. Though my experience with the staff is largely positive, I cannot deny that they are often unwelcoming, dismissive, or outright hostile to new people and existing members alike. Currently, they are instituting a significant price hike for their range which is allegedly necessary due to cash flow issues. The reality of this claim is perplexing. One simply needs to spend a day at the range to see how poorly they manage resources. Further, there are so many missed opportunities that they are clearly unwilling or unable to take advantage of. This range opens late, closes early, and fails to manage the flow of people in and out of the range efficiently, despite one of the highest employee/customer ratio I have ever seen at a range. For example, like most people, I have a job. At best I visit once a week. This is because they close well before the majority of people leave work on the 3/5 week days they are even open. I and many others would be visiting 3-4 times a week if they offered shooting in the 6-9pm range. In the summer this isn't even nighttime. Rather, they see fit to fully staff a largely empty range in the morning. Again, this is but a single example. Their recent price hike is another example of their failure to understand basic economic realities. USI is one of very few ranges in the area. Gun ownership is at record levels. Ammo is expensive but widely available. Other ranges are flourishing, while USI is struggling to stay afloat. A fee increase is not going to solve their problems.
A Last
First time going to a range and I can say with absolute certainty that I will be returning here. All of the staff was super friendly and informative. You can tell that they take safety serious here but at the same time go about it the right way rather than putting on a grumpy face and barking at all their patrons. They have lights that indicate when the range is hot or when it’s safe to walk out to retrieve your target. They also have a constant timer that shows how much longer the range will be hot for. The boss lady and everyone one else around their does a fantastic job of running the place. Very pleasant first experience. Edit: Came here for the second time and brought my friend who hadn’t ever even held a gun and this place and it’s staffing blew his mind. He was totally shocked by how friendly and helpful everyone was and how committed to safety they are. If you know anyone who has their doubts about the gun community, this is the right place to take them. They staff fully embraces new shooters instead of gate keeping and intimidating. Truly can’t say enough good things about this range. They are so great. Totally eliminated my buddies misconceptions of what a rifle range would be like.

Bad range. Employees treat you like trash, lady that works at the front desk is rude, slow and just dosent care about the customers. To sum it all up possible the worst range I've been too. Avoid this place at all cost and take the extra time to drive to a different range.

I went shooting at the new range Saturday. I really like the new setup. Can't wait for the rifle range to open. The new Target system is great. You can move your target closer or father at your leisure. I really like the cease fire clocks that count down to cease fire, and the lights that tell you when it's safe. It's very intuituve and safe. The canopy is awesome and will keep sun and rain out. It's really nice and I'm so happy they are open again. I will be back this weekend.

Yes we are, but 100% masking and social distancing are more important than ever.
Kids on the public rifle-pistol range must be 10 or older with an adult.
Wait no longer, our public rifle-pistol range is open to the public!
You'll be able to shortly when we re open. Until then it is just 22lr only.... We are supposed to re open in October. Check back with me then...
We do not offer rentals. You may want to contact the clubs, as they offer Musketeers which are free programs to introduce youth to firearms.
It is $20 per shooter for rifle/pistol range and $10 per round for trap/skeet. You can find directions and our hours at https://unitedsportsmen.com/location/ .
We do not offer firearms rentals.
We are generally open even if it rains, the only exception for this is when visibility is too low (less than 100 yards clearly). There is currently no mechanism to share when we have to close due to weather, etc but we are working on posting it on our web site in the future.
We do not offer firearm rentals. Since you must be 21 or older to purchase a handgun in California, rentals generally have the same requirement.
Shotguns are allowed on the pistol range with slugs only.
We do not offer lessons. You can contact any of the Clubs about any activities they have that might match your requirements. https://unitedsportsmen.com/club-membership/ .
Sorry, masks are required throughout the USI property. Once Contra Costa Health Dept lifts the requirement, we will as well.
Yes it is!
IT IS OPEN.... GO AND HAVE SOME FUN @THE PISTOL RANGE
The road to our public rifle-pistol range is paved, but there are speed bumps (so proceed with caution in low cars). Our pistol range allows between 7-20 yards and our rifle range allows either 25 or 100 yards.
It is definitely hand gun time, come have some fun.
It is going to be open the next couple of weeks to card-carrying members only. To get the bugs out etc. Th@t is supposed to start this weekend...
You will need to own a firearm (or come with a friend that does), watch our safety video, and complete our waiver (includes questions about the video). Once done you will need to wait in the regular line until you are issued a waiver card that will allow you to use the express line in the future.
We are open to the public now for both rifle and pistol.
Not yet.
Adults (18 or over) can come shoot their firearms on the public rifle-pistol range. Minors (10-17) must be escorted by an adult.
We are open to the public now for both rifle and pistol (all calibers).
We are open to the public now for both rifle and pistol (all calibers).
Go to the website. There are 5 different clubs that make up United sportsmen. You have to join one of those. Each one has different requirements so you will have to look at each club.
I think it's members only...
Crossbows are only allowed on the archery range. Contact one of the 5 member clubs for more information.
