Comfort Inn & Suites Near Mt. Rushmore

This hotel was very clean and quiet. The employees were friendly and very helpful when we needed more towels or had any questions. Hill City is a nice in between spot between Mt Rushmore in Keystone, Custer State Park and Crazy Horse Memorial as welll as Deadwood. My critiques... The room darkening curtains wouldn't ever close fully so light leaked in and made it difficult to sleep. We had to use a hair clip to keep the blinds together to keep the light from the parking lot out at night. We also had a room on the bottom floor by the pool. The pool chemicals were so strong we could smell them in our room and we both got headaches and a bit nauseated the first night. By the 2nd night, we didn't notice it as much.

Our trip plans were cancelled because of personal reasons and the emergency complications of Yellowstone closing. The owner uses predatory (non-refundable) booking policies that are not easily presented in the terms of agreement through third party agents. I even have in writing from him that he does not recommend booking through the hotel via those policies. he tried to blame Expedia for the policies but Expedia confirmed in writing that the policies are set by the hotel owner. Policies which he claimed he could not change, alter, flex. Even when Expedia was willing to advocate for a refund with more than 7 days notice, the owner refused. He is patronizing via email and completely unscrupulous. DO NOT BOOK here if you want comfort, flexibility, or an ethical business owner. Go ANYWHERE but here!

We were very satisfied with this hotel. It is very close to Mt. Rushmore and the Crazy Horse Memorial. The bed are comfortable and our room had a nice shower. The complimentary breakfast was good but they might consider an extra wafflemaker during peak season. I recommend this hotel if you are visiting the Mt. Rushmore area.

Positive: The location was great for all monuments. The room was clean and spacious. Breakfast was good. The staff were friendly and helpful. Negative: Holiday weekend morning, breakfast had no butter or syrup available.
