Great customer service at this REI Co-op location; staff are always very helpful and knowledgeable, and there is a wide selection of gear even during sale periods.

I've been a member for over 10 years and in my opinion the quality of the customer service has dramatically gone downhill. From a disheartening experience in May 2021 to being stared at by the employees in the bicycle section yesterday and not one even asked if I needed help. It's not the same store as it once was when you could walk in and get a plethora of knowledge from any of the employees. I don't live too close to the store so when I go I like to wander around and look at new stuff. At times I felt as though I was being watched wandering the store but I was only asked once and it turned into the employee trying to upsell me from what I wanted which wasn't in stock. The one time I was asked if I needed help, the experience was not enjoyable. What really sucks, is leaving the store unhappy and not wanting to go back.

RUDE and POORLY TRAINED! One of the employees that manages the hiking booths section of the store turned his back on on me and left me talking while approaching him to ask a question. When I asked him politely what seem to be the matter, he told me he was putting 6ft space between me and him. The interaction with this employee left me with such a bad taste that I'm unsure what kind of recommendation I would give his manager to correct it.

Solid REI with a HUGE selection of inventory. All prices match internet markdowns... this store really has their stuff together. Friendly staff who can help you with anything you need! Despite the industrial exterior, this place is BEAUTIFUL inside. See for yourself! 🏔🧗♂️🚵♂️⛷🏃♂️🚣♀️🎒

No, the Reading, MA location only rents snowshoes, bike racks, and rooftop boxes.
Mask must be worn in the store, there is plexiglass at the registers, and employees stay 6 feet away from you but are still super helpful. I believe that when they get busier they track the number of customers in the store to keep it low.
Right now and for the foreseeable future, they have a garage sale section in the right rear of the store. It's smaller, but constantly restocked, to keep crowding to a minimum (due to Covid).
Best to call your local rei.
