The worst travel department I’ve ever used, all parts of it are absolutely horrible and that is truly sad. The VA should be there to help soldiers and their primary concern should be soldiers and not money. This travel department will find anyway to take money out of the soldiers pocket. They send you around to so many departments hoping you’ll forget and walk away and if you don’t they will eventually give you the littlest amount possible. Took me 4 months to get a response, good luck if you are stuck going here.

My military records were lost in the National Records Center fire in St. Louis. I was having a terrible time getting a VET ID and signing up for VA benefits. I visited the Tampa Vet Affairs office and had a new ID, and complete access to VA medical facilities withing 30 minutes of arrival. Great service, helpful, thorough, respectful and courteous.

To my chagrin the speed with which the VA responds to a request is akin to a mailman in molasses. I asked for a VA Real Estate guaranteed home refinance. The VA through my lender chose a Fee Appraiser in my area and set up a home appraisal. I received the appraisal within a week. The first page of the appraisal had 31 errors. I immediately asked for a revaluation. I claimed the appraiser was incompetent. They acknowledged my complaint six months later and informed they took these matters very seriously and the appropriate action had been taken, but after several letters and email concerning what action was taken I've had no answer. My advice: get the VA manuals governing VA Loan Guarantees, demand a copy of the appraisal before it is sent to your lender and if you have complaints use registered mail to file them. Their mission statement speaks to the concern they have in serving ex-service people. They seem to be unaware of the mission or just plain do not care.
