The most horrible vet experience in my lifetime. Brought our cockatoo in for nail, wing trim and exam. First red flag...they make you sign a waiver to relieve them of any responsibility for injury or death...they say birds are fragile so they have you sign the waiver...have never had to sign a waiver in 30 years of her vet care. Red flag number two.. they want to just take your pet inside without you...I had to ask to go in with my pet. The only pre-exam question they asked was how old she was..no diet or health needs questions. But the absolute most horrendous part was when we heard blood curdling screaming coming from one of the rooms. I askthe front desk if that is my bird screaming and am told.."oh no there is a crow in the back." So I demand to have my bird brought out. Eventually I get into the room where my pet is and ask the vet assistant in with her if she was the one screaming and she states "yes"!! So they lied about her suffering and to top it off I pay a huge fee to get her out of the office. No vet in sight and no follow up call to share any details on her exam the reason for her unreal screaming. Believe the previous reviews regarding poor care. My worst vet experience ever... painful and sad that they lie to your face about the status of your pet...not to mention the harm she endured.

I'm glad I found another exotic vet office that treated my guinea pig, Mochi, very well. I will keep coming back because of the attentiveness they provided. This morning I came home from work and noticed her limping and I thought the worse. Right away I started calling vet offices but was put on a long wait list to be seen. Thankfully I called Care Animal Hospital and they had an availability same day. Everyone on the phone was wonderful and professional. Dr. Alcorn treated Mochi very well and explained his findings. My daughter and I were happy to hear she only had some inflammation due to an injury but nothing was broken. Thank you Care Animal Hospital for your services and for treating our munchkin very well! Keep up the excellent work you provide to our furbabies!!!👍🙂

We took our bird in because he was bleeding or had some kind of wetness on his head and we were unsure as to what happened. Our guess was may be a bug bite or he was exposed to something as this injury occurred in his cage by himself. Petey was hospitalized for a day we spent $700. I was told that the bird was doing great and had improved. I have pictures before I dropped my bird and I have pictures of after I brought him home. I am putting both pictures in here so you can see. After picking up my bird and seeing his condition I Immediately took him somewhere else where they placed stitches in my birds head and said that it had a huge gash. Prior to my bird being released the doctor called me and told me that he wasn’t sure what happened but it must’ve been something chemical because he had no openings or lesions on his head. How could this doctor have missed putting stitches in my birds head if he actually spent any time with him? I would not bring your animal to this location. I have Called twice and have yet to hear back from the doctor. I am beyond angry and feel like they jeopardized my birds health. I wish I would have read these reviews prior to bringing my bird here. I will not make this mistake again.

The best exotics vet I've ever has the pleasure of working with. Doctor Brian Murphy and staff were absolute fantastic. I brought in a very sickly boa constrictor who I was rescuing. She was in very bad shape and the magic the staff were able to work with her was amazing. I will be using Care Animal hospital for all my pets not just exotics. Thank you everyone.

How can animals improve our mental health and outlook on life?

Care Animal Hospital | Aug 21, 2020

Animals, including cats, dogs and exotic pets, help round out our daily life as we understand that we need to care for and attend to our pet friend’s needs. We all have cares and concerns, however, as we share our hearts with our pets we move away from self-reflection and self-assessment. Our pets require daily attention including feeding time, play time, exercise time, sleep time, holding and loving time, and time to relieve themselves. We are responsible for their wellbeing. All of this requires time and effort on our part, and therefore we share our day and our lives with our pet friends. We are therefore not alone, and we have companions that require our efforts and attention beyond our own needs and cares. Giving our hearts to pets has shown to improve mental health and longevity in people.

How can I help prevent health issues in my senior pet?

Care Animal Hospital | Aug 21, 2020
Care Animal Hospital | Aug 21, 2020

To help prevent health issues in your senior pet, you should have a daily awareness of their eating habits and activities for a general measure of how your older pet is feeling. If your senior pet has behavior changes this can indicate discomfort or medical problems. If your pet has loss of appetite, seems to sleep more, is lethargic, anxious, limping or shows discomfort being picked up, these are signs your senior pet is having problems and needs to be taken to the vet. Preventing health issues in your senior pet also includes feeding them good quality food, giving them daily exercise and maintaining an appropriate bodyweight. Dental health is paramount to maintaining your senior pets health, so if they have bad breath or difficulty chewing, take them to your veterinarian to have their teeth and mouth evaluated. Senior pets should have biannual check ups with your veterinarian to be made aware of any health issues that you cannot detect.

Is pet insurance worth the cost?

For most pet owners, pet insurance is an extremely worthwhile investment to help maintain the best possible care for their pet. There are many carriers of veterinary pet insurance which provides for payment of many medical and surgical needs for your pets. Nationwide, ASPCA and Trupanion are just a few examples of pet insurance companies that offer many different policies with different coverages, deductibles and premiums. With pet insurance, you are able to provide the best care for your pets on a regular basis. Pet insurance is the single most important purchase to make to be sure your pet gets all the care it needs, all the time.

Do Vets have payment plans?

Care Animal Hospital | Aug 21, 2020
Care Animal Hospital | Aug 21, 2020

The majority of veterinary practices do not provide payment plans because there are better sources to borrow money for a pet’s medical needs. Care credit and Sunbit are just a few examples of instant credit options available to owners. At the vets office, you can call or email one of these companies that will determine the dollar amount they will lend and what the payment schedule will be. Most of these companies provide very flexible payment plans. When you bring your pet to the veterinarian, discuss with them the payment options that are available, so you can provide the best care for your pets.

What shots are required by law in California for a dog?

Care Animal Hospital | Aug 21, 2020
Care Animal Hospital | Aug 21, 2020

The state of California requires rabies immunization regularly for your dog. There are different rabies vaccines, some of which need to be given once a year, while other manufacturers provide a three-year rabies vaccine. Human rabies is 99% fatal, however it is 100% preventable through vaccinating dogs against rabies. The standard vaccinations for dogs including distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parainfluenza, parvovirus and coronavirus can protect your dog against these transmissible viruses, and three year vaccines are available.

Why should you take your dog to the vet?

Care Animal Hospital | Aug 21, 2020
Care Animal Hospital | Aug 21, 2020

If your dog is injured or ill, a veterinarian can examine your dog and provide the help necessary to make it feel better, get out of pain and heal. Even if your dog seems healthy, it is important that it is examined every year by a doctor and twice yearly for dogs over 7 years of age. Regular examinations are paramount to maintaining good health for your dog and if they are injured or ill, immediate treatments can often produce rapid results to help heal your dog and get it out of pain.

How often should I take my dog to the vet?

Care Animal Hospital | Aug 21, 2020
Care Animal Hospital | Aug 21, 2020

Annual examinations are necessary for every dog up to the age of 7. After 7 years of age it is important that your dog is examined by a doctor every six months or twice year. With regular examinations a veterinarian can detect potential problems early and get them treated so your dog can enjoy a long and healthy life. As for all of us, prevention is the best cure, especially when it pertains to the health of your best friend.
