We are so happy to have had the opportunity to work with Selkirk owners & staff to design & build our home. We spent quite a bit of time interviewing and researching builders, and while there are other reputable builders in the area, the way the Haug family & Selkirk staff made us feel were the intangibles that sealed the deal. We were over 1000 miles away during the time our home was designed and constructed, and aside from a few trips to the area along the way, our project's success was in Selkirk's hands. As such, it was vital that we had confidence in the people & process. From start to finish, we cannot imagine a smoother, less stressful experience. Honest and ongoing communication is probably the most important part of any major project, and that need is magnified when distance is involved. We never felt out of the loop, never felt used or cheated, and when the inevitable wrinkles in the plan occurred, our thoughts were always requested, discussed, and we always felt that our opinions mattered. There are times during every build when things go off-script. Most times, these things involve additional effort and costs. Most builders pass these costs on to you. With Selkirk, prices quoted were always honored, even when unforeseen issues came up that cost Selkirk additional money to rectify. Change orders not involving architectural changes were unlimited & provided with no additional fees. Nothing was ever added, emended, nor removed without discussion and consent. In short, there were no "make-you-question-the-wisdom-of-your-choice" surprises, and we always felt that things were done as if we were physically there overseeing the day-to-day. Upon completion, we saw (and still see) Selkirk folks often, as they dropped by to see how things were and to make sure we remained happy & satisfied. We were repeatedly encouraged to report back and pass along any concerns; more often than not, Selkirk's folks noted things that needed addressing that we hadn't even considered. All were handled in a timely manner, with the utmost professionalism & attention to detail. From the Haug family, to our designer, Kelly, and the many supporting players too numerous to mention without certainly forgetting some deserving party, our experience with Selkirk could NOT have been more pleasant nor stress-free. Were we to build again, or were we to recommend a builder to others, we would not hesitate to give Selkirk our highest endorsement. We started off as business partners, but truly ended as friends.

Incredibly thankful I worked with Selkirk to build a home. They are, first and foremost, honest and driven to deliver a great product. As with all complex projects, there is a lot of collaboration, communication and so on. Their door was always open, they always came to the table with solutions and ultimately made sure I was happy as the consumer. In so many ways I'll miss working with their team, it's like they become family. Thank you Selkirk!

We chose Selkirk Construction to build our home from a referral and based on some on the challenges I have heard that other home owners have encountered with other General contractors; Selkirk Construction will prove it otherwise. The ease of doing business with Selkirk Construction was a breath of fresh air. The overall experience was far beyond anything we expected. The style of homes they build are definitely a good representation for the Pan Handle of northern Idaho and Selkirk put the customer first and they take extra measures to make sure they do. If you are looking to build a custom home: then Selkirk should be your first choice.

We build all over Kootenai County, Eastern Washington, and surrounding areas.
The difference between a regular home and a custom home is the number of choices, type of floor plans, the quality of materials, and the level of detail. During the construction of a regular home, a builder may offer three choices of builder-grade stone for a kitchen counter, whereas every option is available in a custom home. The small details that provide character, charm, and uniqueness are also typically lacking from standard homes. Custom homes allow for just that— customization.
Selkirk Construction is a custom home builder. Our role is a general contractor. We have a team of subcontractors and in-house trades that we oversee to construct your home.
