Have debated membership for years, but am so grateful to now belong to this beautiful library. Aside from the showcase floors, the Athenaeum has countless nooks, perfect for indulging in a book or getting work done. Patrons are quiet and respectful; librarians are friendly and knowledgeable. If the BPL doesn't satisfy, take the plunge! I do wish the library was open on Sundays, however.

Very nice spot, especially for a lover of classics and literature such as myself. I’m not a resident of Boston, but I would certainly purchase a membership if I were. The only disappointment was not being able to see the entire building as part of my visit, with tickets to do so being sold at a somewhat pricey $40.

I dream of the day I could live in this beautiful city and visit this special place often! We took advantage of the late Tuesday opening today, and unfortunately missed the last tour. But the staff is very kind and helpful, and full of helpful information! Thank you to Fritz, Molly, and the front desk crew for making our visit extra special. What a gorgeous place!!

A lovely spot with lots of history and cool books! Would only recommend going for a tour as a non-member, however. Otherwise, rooms are super limited and you can't even see the nicer parts of the athenaeum (namely, the 5th floor reading room). They have free visits every second Saturday of the month, and tours are only $2 each, so would highly recommend going then. Tours are an hour long and I found ours engaging and interesting.

Depends on how old you are. Check the website.
Yes, on Second Saturdays admission to the first floor is free.
Yes - $10 for single day entrance without membership
If you mean a day pass to hang out on the upper floor where members are allowed to go, I don't think there's a "day pass" option for that. I don't remember seeing that on the membership option. The $10 pass is to visit the bottom floor and the museum part.
9 am
Drinks in covered containers are allowed.
The public can come in for free any day of the week and walk around the first floor. The exception is when there is an event which usually takes place in the evening.
