The vegetarian combo platter is excellent! The plantains have great flavor! The service hear is great, very fast and efficient. The interior of the restaurant has a rad design, just a cool place. It's definitely worth checking out, the best Ethiopian food in Kansas City for sure.

The food is AMAZING and very authentic!. I am from the Caribbean island of Saint Kitts and my husband (American) brought me here as a surprise in hopes that he could help with my homesickness. Long story short, he hit the nail on the head when he chose this place and we have been faithful customers ever since. The service is so personalized. You feel like family the minute you walk in. Kaptyn, a hostess, and the other host who is male (I can't remember his name) are so welcoming, down to earth, and friendly. The music is ALWAYS perfect, they play West Indian music, both popular and underground. You can expect to hear the sounds Bob Marley, Chronixx, Buju Banton, Jah Cure, Koffee, etc. The menu offers a wide selection of traditional West Indian and Ethiopian food including vegetarian options. One of my absolute favorite things about Awaze is the food portions, you WILL get your money's worth. They give you big portions of food where as some places try to skimp out on quantity. If you are from the Caribbean, you know that big portions are default. The food is seasoned and cooked to perfection and the chef is so humble and sweet. (I often ask to see him at the end of my meal just so I can compliment him). I cannot rave more about this place. If you are of West Indian or Ethiopian descent you will be pleasantly surprised to find out the tastes and vibes of this restaurant will bring you right back to home. And if you aren't from either of those regions you will fall in love with everything about this place and you'll never want fast food or junk food again. You'll be hooked and always craving their curry goat. Speaking of, the last time my husband and I went to Awaze we ordered beef sambussas as appetizers, he ordered curry goat (his favorite in the white bowl) and I ordered jerk chicken ( red plate). Both meals come with sides of red beans and rice, fried plantains, and mixed cabbage with sweet potato. You also get fresh salads with avocado, olive oil and tomatoes with the meal as well. See what I mean about big portions! If you live in Kansas City, Awaze is MUST MUST MUST go to. It is the perfect place to enjoy great music, great people, and even better food.

Very nice workers. Great fresh food. Good music selection as well. If Jamaican and Ethopian food is what you're looking for this is the spot to go!

My mom and I enjoyed this place so much. Our waitress was so kind and made us feel very welcome. We had some wonderful tea and fresh juice and ordered the vegetarian platter. They were very accommodating about our inability to handle spicy foods and added extras of other dishes. My mom said she would go back every day if she could!
