Very Rocky trail to get from the parking lot down to the swimming hole. Very much worth the hike. The 3 ledges to jump off of were a lot of fun. (Make sure to swim out and check the depth before jumping from the high wall) There were about 50 people in the gorge which was a lot on a summer day but not so crowded that you were shoulder to shoulder. Will definitely be back. Wear solid footwear for the hiking down and back up. Flip flops not advised.

From all the 5 star reviews and attractive social media posts, I had high expectations for this place. When I came, the canyon area/overlook was beautiful & I really enjoyed the view (that's where the pic is from), however I was a bit disappointed when I hiked down to Hippie Hole. Too many visitors were awfully disrespectful to wildlife/the land and left litter EVERYWHERE, far more than I'm comfortable with seeing. The cliffs were fun to jump off of but the litter did not end there. It's called "leave no trace," pack out what you brought in, it's not that hard! There was a good bit of litter on the trails as well. I do plan to come back but I hope people decide to be good citizens and pick up after themselves. Other than that, it is a nice place.

Google Maps took us to the wrong place, a gravel lot that was locked up. You have to park at the Little River Canyon Falls and then walk a dirt trail from the parking lot to the Hippie Hole. About a 30 minute walk. The trail has some drop offs just off to the side so keep little ones close. The trail also connects to the boardwalk for the falls so you can view the falls before or after your trip to Hippie Hole. We went to the Hippie Hole right after Hurricane Laura, but not a lot of rain before that so water was not too swift but a little cloudy. The rocks in the water are VERY slick, even with water shoes (a must). I slipped and (very ungracefully) fell a couple times and got some nice bruises to show for it. There were a few “rapids” that were fun to float in and only a couple spots where my husband and I could not touch the bottom. It is pretty shallow in several areas for kids to play but keep a close eye on them because, well, it is a river, so the bottom can drop out from under you in any given spot or you can find yourself in a current. There is a little shelf (maybe 10ft above the water) you can jump off of into a basin. The water off the shelf is about 10-12 feet deep (best guess) my feet felt the bottom but it was a soft touchdown and helped me spring back to the surface. The swim across to get out is kind of long for a weaker swimmer and the current can be strong. My 13 year old got tired and had to float on her back while I pulled her across. I did not let her jump again after that. Some teens were climbing up the side of the mountain and jumping from a higher vantage point about 25 ft up. They said they never touched bottom so not sure how deep it is there. I talked to a local there that day and he said people drown all the time here. Especially from jumping from the higher rocks off the side of the mountain. People slip, break their backs, or get caught in the current trying to get to the other side where you can safely climb out. He says sometimes it rains and flash floods can come down the canyon and the water will rise rapidly and people get trapped on the wrong side of the river. Or people slip on the rocks and break an ankle and it takes hours for EMS to reach you and get you out. So bottom line: this is a fun popular place to go, a great place to cool off and have fun in hot weather but be aware of conditions and don’t be stupid. We had a good time with our 4 kids 6-13 but played mostly in the knee deep water.

This place is beautiful I spent 6 hours here and didn't want to leave, if you are going to jump off any cliff into the water I recommend the highest one I have not heard of anyone being hurt on that one (as shown in my photos where 2 people are sitting and the rest standing) where the water is deeper not the 10, 15 feet tall ones when I went a kid split his leg and I could see the bone also was told people get hurt there all the time and someone even died off that same one. So if you are going to jump pick the highest cliff bc the short ones do have rocks!!! Stay save yall ❤❤

If you park in the gravel parking lot before you reach the main overlook bridge, it's less than a quarter mile with steep stairs. Hiking from the overlook is about a mile.
Was pretty crowded when I was there this last Sunday. Lots of rangers too.
The ranger there told me there were too many accidents and that was the closest way to get to the hole that the emergency services used and people park there and blocked the entrance so emergency could not get there. So they closed it to emergency vehicles only. You can go over little River falls parking and hike from there
There is no camping anywhere in the park at this moment.
People where swimming there in July
