Great little hike in the middle of the city. You can access this from various points throughout the length of the trail. A good place to start is near the Hicks Canyon Elementary school, or on the other side near Beckman High school. The trail has two parallel paths, one is paved and one is dirt/gravel. Each one is on either side of the river basin so you can't just switch sides. You'll need to start on one path or the other. It feels secluded even though it is close to the toll road and other big streets. You can walk along the path and some apartment complex buildings have direct access to the path, you can also exit the path at each major cross street and you end up directly on the sidewalk. Good path to do a quick walk in the afternoon, or take the kids for a bike ride. If you follow it towards the ocean, it connects with other bike paths. You could technically go all the way to Newport beach starting on this path.

Questions & Answers

I am so embarrassed to admit that I have no sense of direction. How do I make sure I don’t get lost if I want to go hiking? Is there only one direction to end the hike?

You can't get lost there. If you feel you are lost, just go back. All the mini roads lead to the main one anyway.

Is Peters Canyon Trail dog friendly?
