The owners on line information is bogus. We made a 30 minute trip to discover the business was closed. How hard is it to run a business and provide current hours of operation??? Apparently this owner doesn’t care. I can’t comment on the selection of books.

A lovely Escondido staple, the kind of place that makes Grand Ave so special. It's traditional and nostalgic like the other Grand Ave legacy shops, but it's fun and current- not sad and crusty like Doarts shoe shop or the clock repair place up the street. Helen, the proprietor, is SO great. You can just tell she's a good egg. I mean it's a book shop, and there are always kids there. That must be because of Helen. They accept book donations (mostly kids / young adult fiction) for store credit (not cash.) Warning to dog owners- Helen LOVES giving treats! She has turned mine into an ADDICT! 🤣 When we pass by and the store is closed, she has a meltdown.

Helen, Sabrina, and Sierra are my new favorite people. Exchanging books here is just a downright FUN experience; this is a group of completely genuine folks that make you feel valued/cared for without being schmoozy. I used to read books for the information, or for the story - now, I mostly read books so I have an excuse to go visit the crew at Helen’s Book Mark!!! It is people like this who make Escondido such a wonderful place.

Have you ever been into such a thoughtfully decorated bookstore, where every book has its place, and yet each room area has its own colorful little vibe?!? Oh my goodness! This place is special! You can just feel how much this owner loves books, and the moods they create. Check out the picture of the “romance” room!! So amazing! Just come in to see this! I mean, really!?!? Very special!

Helen does take book donations! I just gave her a few last week. You should know that she mostly goes for fiction, specifically kids / young adults. I often see teens in the store giving her a hug 😁 I bet she'll take anything though and find it a nice home! ☺️
Yep! You sound like a kind person.
Currently they are only open on Wednesday and Saturdays.
No more appointments required, still very limited hours but the doors are open!
Had a few in stock
She only gives store credit.
Helen doesn't pay cash, only store credit. Your question was whether anyone buys used paperbacks- I would suggest checking online, but these days almost all old paperbacks have no real market value. Rare collectibles like very old or 1st edition prints are rare exceptions, but of course normal books are like CD's- they're all available online.
