Doing everything they can to not issue authorization (aka promise to pay), then acting like they will when you want to file a grievance so they dont have to file a grievance either. I had no intentions of being with these jokers either, it was all done by state employees forcing me into this coverage which is a joke because its "free". Nothing is free except for the headache you get in dealing with these people.

Beware. Not a good healthcare system and very poor quality. My brother's girlfriend has been trying to get medical help for a possible autoimmune disease and has received nothing but the run around from the get go. She has been referred to a doctor who doesn't even take Cal Optima and then was made to wait over a month for another referral, which was approved 10 days prior to her checking on it and she was never called. Now she has to wait two and a half months to be seen by a specialist, and in the meantime, her symptoms are growing and she is worsening. It seems they don't care if you drop dead. This insurance should be entirely 100% free because it is a disgrace and quite frightening. You would think that we live in a third world country. Even the healthcare in socialistic countries is much quicker than and much more superior to Cal Optima!

Cal Optima refers me to Rheumatologists who either does not accept me as their patient or that rheumatologist is no longer belong to a medical group. I have been waiting for almost 2 months just to get to get an appointment, but there is no hope. Non of the rheumatologist that Cal Op has approved for me to see is able to see me; meanwhile, I am in pain like dying and it worsen my anxiety. Staff is rude, slow, and does not know what's going on, trying to help in rudeness and ignorance. To whoever planning to register with Cal Op, please, please, please, if you are really care about your health, do not use this health insurance. Even my PCP office complains about this insurance network.

Cal-Optima phone system is inefficient, barely manned. When a representative finally answers, they're not allowed to wait for more than 2 minutes. This is after I myself have been waiting over 10 minutes for a representative to answer the call. So when it's my turn to ask them to hold while I get someone in my family on the line, the representative, Joanna, indicated that she can not hold for more than 2 minutes. And in reality, while I was waiting for the 2nd line to pick up to conference into the call, Joanna disconnected the call. Top that off, this is my 3rd attempt, on different occasions, for the SAME issue. Should I expect better?

There's no such healthcare network called "southland" with CalOptima. I think what you're referring to is the recent naming by the LA Times of Optum Health Care as the best o the southland 2021, southland as in Southern California. Maybe your new medical provider is Optum? Double check with Caloptima.

No, they don't offer any testing or vaccines at this location.
Even if your move is "permanent" you'll still have 6 months to switch unless you've figured out a way to maintain a legal presence in Orange County. If your doctor is not in the Cal Optima network & you've been seeing her for 20 years then you should be fine going forward.
College Hospital in Costa Mesa provides medicated detox (detox only) that is covered by CalOptima. MD Health Clinics provide addiction therapy (and medication) in Tustin/Fullerton (in-patient) and their out-pateint is at least covered by Medical/CalOptima. I do not know if there in-patient is, but I believe it is. Good luck.
Go to the caloptima building that is left in the chapman
Go and look for the page of caloptima, so you can help with the information.

Yes, a Doctors.
It depends on which health network you are with. Give your health network a call and they can tell you which are contracted providers.
You can apply through Covered California anytime for Medi-Cal. If Medi-Cal is not approved, you may have to wait until the open enrollment and apply for an Exchange plan. They are guaranteed issue and the Silver level plans have a sliding scale, where based on your income, they will adjust the cost of the plan (premium) as well as the benefit (copays for Dr visits, RX). If you do qualify for Medi-Cal and you live in Orange County, your coverage will likely be sent to Cal-Optima to manage. Cal-Optima is a Third Party that handles most of the OC Medi-Cal services. They offer various options of medical groups that you can choose such as Kaiser, Monarch Healthcare, CHOC, Regal Medical Group, AMVI and many more. Dependending on where you live, which physician or specialist you want to see, you can choose the most appropriate Medical Group and change it anytime (once per month as long as you notify them in advance). Covered CA, will determine the plans you are eligible for and let you know.
You need to find out who your PCP (Primary Care Provider) is. Call CalOptima, or your Health Network to find out who is assigned to you. You can also find some of this information on your CalOptima ID card, or online at CalOptima.org
