Recently I was on Google Maps looking for accommodations in Northwest CT and out of curiosity zoomed in on Lakeville to see if Camp Sloan was still operating. I was glad to see it is still going strong after so many years. I spent Augusts 1973-1975 there as a camper. It instilled in me a love of the outdoors, invaluable comraderie while providing some helpful socialization. The counselors were great role models. I participated in theater, music, swimming, rowing, wilderness survival and much more. I had my first kiss with a girl there too! The memories are wonderful. Back then the food was awful but the dining hall was a riot -- all part of the experience. Ignore the negative reviews (there's always at least one skunk at a picnic).

Connie Smith 😥 Your camp should have been closed after you lost a child. No excuses will bring her back. I'm shocked any parent would send their child to your camp.

I was a camper there years and years ago... From a Pioneer all the way through to a CLT...I credit Sloane for much of my foundations and personal growth. I learned such important lessons about inclusiveness, compassion and all the basics of “getting along “ I am now a advanced age alumni.. my camping days were the late ‘60’s-‘70’s but Sloane still remains close in heart!! Still remember the songs ( if they are even sung anymore!)..” C-A-M-P S-L-O-A-N-E” and “ If I had the wings of a Pioneer “.... and the Greenwood Tree... I know I’m dating myself but thought you’d like to know how, after so many years Camp Sloane still evokes such happiness! Sent my daughter there too... almost named her Sloane too!! Keep up the great work!

Questions & Answers

Hello people... Dad was a counselor back in the 50s and my brother and I were campers in the early 70s. He isn't around anymore to ask but I was wondering what year the camp started?
