As a Florida attorney, I usually hire Florida-based court reporters. I needed to take a Zoom deposition of a witness in North Carolina, so my legal assistant found Naegeli Deposition & Trial. Unfortunately, my assistant didn't ask for a rate sheet before we scheduled the remote deposition. It turns out that the witness didn't show up to Naegeli's office, so the deposition never took place. I asked the court reporter to email me a certificate of non-attendance for purposes of compelling the witness's attendance at a future deposition. When I received the bill for this Zoom, no-show deposition, I was shocked. Naegeli charged me $494.44 for the deposition (the deposition that didn't happen). They also charged me $200 for the certificate of non-attendance, and $195 for use of a conference room, and $30 for "shipping and handling," even though they didn't ship me anything (they did, however, email me a certificate of non-attendance). So, all total this no-show deposition cost me $919.44. I will NEVER use Naegeli again. If you plan to use them, I highly recommend that you ask them for their rate sheet ahead of time so you know just how expensive it's going to be. I'm still shocked at how outrageous this bill is.
